Just buy some stocks/crypto/real estate as an investment and then do whatever you want to your car 👍
They're not making any more land....

holding onto original parts is fine. I kept the oem exhaust on my 50th. I'm going to do some other bolt-ons as well (headers, CAI, tune, 18 intake). the real key is to keep track of model specific options, like something on a Mach1, gt350/500, 50th LE. things that can't be sourced from other regular models. engines and transmissions wont be hard to get for a regular GT (or even a mach1), things change for the voodoo and predator, and that's why those will hold better value over the long term. if you want evidence of that look at the cost of a 68 fastback 289 gt vs a 68 gt500kr.

that being said... cars are made to be driven, enjoy it, maintain the hell out of it, accumulate spare parts as you go. everyone has their joy of cars, my personal pet peeve is trailer queens. cars that are started and driven off a trailer so they can win some trophy at a show where it's really all about stroking your ego over your fat wallet instead of enjoying the divine purpose of the car itself. cars that get 3-4 miles per year going back and forth off a trailer. but that's me. I LOVE classic mustangs, but.... if I had one it would be a resto mod with modern chassis/suspension/brakes and an EFI windsor stuffed in it so I can actually drive and enjoy it.

in the end you gotta do you. the question you have to ask yourself is "will the ubiquitous s550 gt be a collector and do I care if it isnt?" if it's about the car/ride then collector status doesn't matter anyway. if collector status does matter get a limited production/special model like the shelby/mach and treat it as such. just my take on it.

Perhaps true.

But I chose to answer the guy’s question directly rather than challenge the way he structured the proposition. I understood what he meant. I’m not too much into consistently arguing just out of boredom.
Thank you for this.

Can a regular GT be worth some money some day? Sure, just look at what the 60’s Mustangs, Camaros, Chevelles, etc. bring at auction. Would I bank on that and consider my ‘22 a collectible some day? Absolutely not. I bought it to drive it and have fun. If I decide to move on from it some day, I’ll probably give it to my son as he enjoys cars almost as much as I do. Who knows what the future will bring and if the next generation or two will care about cars like we do (well stated @cerbomark ). AND if all these governments have their way and ICE cars are for the most part gone in 50 years, you’re either going to have to battery swap these things or they’re just giant paper weights. Enjoy these cars while we have them and live for today for we are not guaranteed tomorrow. My $0.02 but you do you.

Question would keeping my car oem hold its value more then adding a simple exausht to it drive less then100 km on sunny weekends in the summer this car will be handed down for generations 🤞
What happens when the mustang is handed down and the kids/grandkids are into German or Japanese cars? Better yet, what happens when the heirs are into electric vehicles and dislike our dinosaur burners? No value there... keep it for yourself and enjoy the car how you want it. Once you are done with it, get rid of it and move on to something else you enjoy. 👍

Absolutely. Look at values of nice, original Fox GTs sometime. But it'll take a while for the values to get crazy.

Gasoline is a bygone era. We love our cars but the writing is on the wall.
Sure, finding a numbers-matching car 30 years from now would be great

But so would finding a Turbo/Supercharged beast that is tastefully done. Why? Because all the kids will have wrecked theirs so those that are left will be in amazing shape and much sought after.

"I say dear chap, why would you purchase a stock Mustang? Get a modified one and smoke peasants for breakfast arh arh arh - You can afford $72.00 a litre for gasoline so enjoy yourself".

Also, cars are depreciating assets unless you own a limited edition or there are like none of them on the street. There are 57 bajillion Mustangs out there. But find one like most of the guys who have modded theirs on here? Significantly less.

Yeah it’s crazy how much Fox prices went up in the last few years. I think some of the pricing is due to the current environment but I also think with the number of 60’s and 70’s era cars becoming fewer in numbers and higher in price, it’s the Foxes (and other cars of that era) turn for a price increase. Not to mention the folks that grew up in the 50’s-70’s are aging (we all are really) and so now folks like me that grew up in the 80’s are starting to go after the cars we grew up with.

I have a short list of Foxes I'd like to find, but I should have bought five years ago....

Like many here have pointed out, the key word is “enjoy”! It’s your car and your money, so in the end nothing counts except what blows up your skirt. We all have opinions but yours is the only one that matters.

I am always amused at the reasoning, or maybe the lack thereof, of folks who describe their ”pet peeve” as being what another owner chooses to do or not do with his own car.

Same here, had an opportunity on one about 5 years ago that was in really good shape and low miles for a great price. Still kicking myself for not taking it. Price would be triple today I’m sure.
