Hi all,

I'm looking at getting a S550. One of the ones I am considering is a 2018 2.3 Ecoboost. The owner has done the full suite of bolt on mods and its currently tuned to make 430 HP. With 60k KM (37k miles) on the current engine, how long can I expect it to last, assuming the mods and tuning were done right? It'll be buying it to daily and probably do 1 or 2 track days a year with it (depending on how much free time I have in the summer).

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers

As an edit, I do have the mod list below:
3.5" intake tube, Cobb filter
CP-E stock mount intercooler
DV+ diverter valve
CVF aluminum charge pipe
CVF 3" catless down pipe (I would likely swap this out for a catted down pipe)
MBRP 3" catback
NGK 6510s spark plugs
UPR DVCC, hollowed PCV
NX2 Turbo
RGA tune

Sadly, nobody can predict how long its going to last for you. If you were not the person to do the mods and get the tune, i wouldn't purchase that for your daily driver. To many unknowns with how it was setup. If you look around this forum you will see lots of stories of people purchasing modded rides and the horror stories that go with it. I don't blame the modding as i do plenty of that myself, but unless you know every single detail of each mod you won't know how to treat any issues that pop up.

My suggestion would be to buy a stock car to daily drive and mod it as you go along if that's what you want to do. That way you know the whole modding history to make sure no shortcuts of wacky things were done to it. You'll also enjoy each thing done to it vs always wondering what was done to it.

430 wheel or 430 crank? i guess if 430wheel that is pushing the limit of what some tuners would do on a stock engine, but limiting torque is more important. sounds like big turbo on some mix of ethanol. I'm on big turbo and E70 and it should make between 400-420 wheel. As for tracking (HPDE?), at that power level you may only get 1-3 laps depending on track length before needing a cooldown, without any cooling mods. This spring i am going to get retuned for a track map with less power.

some of my stock turbo track videos have inferred oil temp overlay, but coolant temp is a bigger issue.

I wouldn't buy it unless you have money for a new engine. Not a ton of data here but I wouldn't expect it to handle daily duty long unless you have a soft foot. On the other hand it may live a long life. Flip a coin and hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.

relying on RGA sounds expensive and annoying.

Seems like an unnecessary risk. The pre-2021 2.3L engines have known headgasket problems & insufficient coolant passages between the cylinders. They are subject to problems with the stock base 310 HP turbos. Any significant HP increase is bound to lead to disappointment.

Your post indicates a 2018 which would be the "old" style engine block. Your post doesn't indicate if the block was updated with a newer (2021+) block. If the block was replaced with the newer design disregard the above. It might be worth the risk.
