FRONT TOW HOOK

Was talking to a guy today who told me USA premium GT,s dont come with provision for a tow hook like our Aussie ones do in front bar behind a square plug
he also said USA cars had 2 different size threads on models that did have them
just interested how these are fitted or was t only on later models they were fitted like ours?? the add does state 24/25

Mach 1s came with a tow hook port. I never studied the thread size though. My solution is attached.

Taking the factory tow hook from my Welcome Kit (not for sale) and checking that with a bolt gauge in the garage, it measures as an M16, reverse thread rod.

now i am confused lol i thought they had to have brackets bolted on the car on your cars

That is a discussion covering many a thread.

Many of us prefer not to drill into the front bumper. But most states in the US require a front plate mounted on the vehicle. For those areas that do require them, some police are lenient. Others are not. People living in any area have a general feel for what police and inspectors will tolerate and what they won't.

While my state requires a front plate, I place it on the dash. In my county, the police will not pull a person over for lack of a plate. But if being cited for something else, they might add that to a ticket. If the conversation between the police and the person is going well, they might not even notice.

While I do not use it, I like having the ability to place the plate using the hook versus drilling. There are no-drill solutions, but most of these will not work with the still lower lip of the Mach 1 HP splitter. Aesthetically, I like having the plate off to the side. Something different than the traditional center mount.

ok i got you now thankyou so all mustangs came with the plug in bar fo tow hook ???
here its not healthy to not run a plate in any state we have different sizes i run slimline on front of most of my cars due to small size
as an aside i measured the od of thread of our tow hook with calipers its around 15.8 mm lh thread measuring that kit the thread is 17.7 im wondering if its year specific the size difference

I did some general searching just now.

A GT owner can correct me, but to the best of my knowledge, US-based GTs did not come with a receiver installed. Owners were left to their own design to install one.

The Mach 1 I'm most familiar with. Like your car, all Machs came with a front port and receiver, ready to accept a rod and hook end.

GT350s: it reads like some of the earlier years did not come with a receiver welded in from the factory. For these models, owners were left to their own designs to install one. Later Model Years of GT350s did come from the factory with a receiver.

GT500s: GT500s did come with a receiver for a front hook.

As to the size, the measurement of 15.8mm is in-line with mine this morning. The only explanation I can give if your measuring one at 17.7 is that is an aftermarket piece, maybe as part of a rear hook installation? [Edit, see below. AUS spec rods and hooks differ in size.] Many tracks require front and rear hooks or straps.

@Skye is correct, GT’s here in the US do not come with a tow hook port. Only the Mach 1 and Shelby’s come with the tow hook ports (maybe the PP2 and Eco HPP as well?). I have a Mach 1-style front bumper on my GT and it has the access piece for the tow hook like the Mach does, though I haven’t played with to see if it’s removable

if i can work out the correct size from a seller i will put it in the Aussie section on here to help others wishing to mount their front plate in similar fashion

only way to fit one in above pics is to machine thread off US one and get lh dye to recut new thread

The S550 GT's in the US came with the bumper beam and tow hook provision if they had PP1 or PP2.

The GT350/350R also came with the provision but is not the same as the GT's.

Only works for the S650's.

Unfortunately, I am not certain about Non-US Spec Vehicles.

The S550 GT's in the US came with the bumper beam and tow hook provision if they had PP1 or PP2.

PP1 and PP2 cars had no tow hook provisions at all and they weren't any different than non PP cars.

attempting to machine the thread off USA one then run a lh dye onto it right size for Aussie and i presume UK >> cars
may help guys out looking to use the one i posted
pic below is our Aussie plates as they come from VIC ROADS
has horse and mustang wording on them
i wanted the :lined"perspex cover plus chrome surround so i had to cut the stainless at bottom and heavily modify the perspex
i have to finish them off and polish stainless yet they are just mocked up unfinished
