FPC Voodoo Tunability

Tascam

Guest
I know little about FPC engines and frankly a little surprised Ford went down that route when they know Mustang owners love to tune and modifiy their cars.

What do you guys think is the potential of this thing?

More or less than a cross plane? Safety/reliability issues?

If this thing comes with very light weight forged rods/pistons I can see tuners bringing up the rpm limit to 9,000rpm which means more powa (the proof is in the boss 302 tunes.. a lot of them gained a ton more power by tuning up to 8000rpm or a tad higher

but I think full exhaust/headers, intake manifold and a bigger throttle body will bring in some pretty good numbers above stock

i'm kind of guessing that this thing might be almost fully maxed out from the factory though like how Honda with the S2000 and the F20c was pretty much fully tuned from the factory other than 10-15 horsepower with full bolt ons and a tune

This voodoo is going to be maxed out from the factory. What they do with the exhaust manifold and cats will be interesting. But I seriously doubt this one will be leaving much on the table.

I think you have this backwards. It will at very least be rpm limited from the factory for durability and warranty reasons. That itself is "de tuning".

People said the same thing (nothing left on the table, maxxed out)when the Coyote was brought out in 11. They were wrong. It remains to be seen with the Voodoo.

No automaker will never max out their power plant, Ford always leave more than extra for safety purpose.

My guess is the easiest power will come from chopping out the cats

I think, it will be like any other engine, pay to play but with less low hanging fruit.

Considering a Ferrari 458 Italia gains 60+ horsepower and even more torque from just an exhaust and tune, I'm guessing the aftermarket is going to LOVE the Voodoo.

This.

I highly doubt there will be much more to squeeze out without sacrificing durability. The surest power gains will be exhaust and then FI.

Does it even need a tune? Only some at Ford know. Only time will tell.

The same can be asked of Ferrari and lamborghini.

They respond very well to custom tuning (not to mention exhaust, etc.)

And these are engines that are closer to the ragged edge than you'd find from Ford.

Add to that the fact that the GT350 has larger displacement and no direct injection and it's not only possible but probable that the Voodoo responds very favorably to tuning and mods.

If Ford wanted a 500 hp 5.2l coyote, they could have done so without the FPC.

What they have engineered is s PLATFORM. This is an engine with a future. Not a one-off, "maxed out" from the factory. 500-600 hp would leave plenty of room for tuning and bolt on improvements.

Very exciting times.
