This will be very cool. So are they getting stuck with two 200 mil entry fee’s? Haven’t seen that mentioned yet. Think its a crock any new team would have to pay that.
Only if they make new teams, which they aren't.

Fill me in here. How are they not new teams? I understood the rule being there new unless acquiring an existing.
My understanding is both will just be providing engines to existing teams. Porche to Red Bull and Audi to another existing team they may or may not also buy.

There was rumors of that before the season started. I wonder how much validity there is to that. It would be a shame to see Aston Martin leave F1.

Don’t forget Aston Martin. Lawrence Stroll wants out like last race

Sadly the best option would be to get Stroll out of Aston Martin. Otmar gone, Krack already being told what to do rather than letting him do his job, Tobias Moers gone from the road car division after less than 2 years. Crisis times there.

Hello; Watched practice one and part of two before storms knocked out TV. Not clear what to make of the results in terms of who is on top this time.
I did notice the commentators getting into discussions about LH and Russell. While they acknowledged Russell is doing much better than LH so far in races, qualifying and practice they found ways to hype up LH.
Not sure it makes any difference to Russell as he is picking them up and putting them down in good order. He wound up on top after the two practices today.

I do have a question about the new wheels. I may have heard this somewhere, that the new wheel styles do not allow brake cooling as the earlier wheels did. I did note today in some slow motion shots the wheels have few and small openings. If true, was this done on purpose? If on purpose, then why? I do not see how this helps the sport. What have I missed?

The covers are for flow. Ducts are used for brake cooling

Hello; I already knew about the ducts used to direct air into the brake assembly. Such has been the way for a long time. Your second link answered my question however.
Before the hot air and brake dust did exit thru the wheels. I recall great gouts of brake dust being shown coming out of the wheels during heavy braking. Apparently the wheels then acted as fans to pull air out.

Now, according to your own link, the outside of the wheels are covered to improve air flow. Same sort of thing was an issue in closed cockpit race cars. To get better aero the window openings were better closed off. But that made it hotter in the cockpit for the drivers. One of the earlier ways they tried to have it both ways were the NASA ducts (Maybe it was NACA ducts). I first knew of them on the Ford GT of the 1960's.

I also gather there are now larger but fewer holes formed into the rotors. So they get a greater surface area of the disc by increasing the diameter but in some ways some teams seem to be having trouble getting rid of the heat.

On a personal preference note I find the new wheels unsightly. Not so much of a thing as the new car is overall unsightly. So much so it took a while for me to note the wheels. Now the new cars are balanced in that the unpleasant sound is closer matched by the looks. I preferred a naturally aspirated V8 but even the V10 was better than the awful sound the cars now make. Another personal thing.

F1 Miami GP’s Fake Water in Its Marina Becomes Talk of the Town (msn.com)

Hello; While watching the practice and qualifying sessions the boats eventually caught my attention. At first it appeared there was a lot of water bordering parts of the track. After a while it was clear some of the blue was not water but was just solid track runoff areas painted blue.

For a time i wondered if they had a very small pond and had simply dropped the boats into the pond with a crane. That seemed strange but from overhead shots I could see no way to float the boats into the pond.

Now I know. The pond is fake. I still do not know about the boats being real. The link above tells the tale and it is a sad tale in a way. Sad because having a fake marina was somehow important enough to matter for an F1 race.

Between this and drivers personal jewelry, things are getting strange.

Wow, you really missed the point on this one. :giggle: :like: Yes, the boats are real. The Miami Grand Prix wants to be considered the the "Monaco of the West". Unfortunately they couldn't build a track by the water, therefore the fake marina.

As far as the jewelry, I agree with you 100%. F1 is just getting more and more strange/ridiculous. I blame this in part to Liberty Media and their need to grow the sport. While I understand that need, some of the things they are doing is only hurting the sport, not helping it.

Oh well, I'm still looking for a great race today. Just want all of the drivers to be safe. There are some really dangerous spots on this course.

Hello; wanna be like Monaco? Well fake plastic water and a few boats planted on solid ground may do it for some. I still call it sad.

The race was interesting anyway. Seems the RB is fastest when it does not have problems. The Ferrari seems to be better in the curves.
Russell beat Hamilton again.

I think they should just let Hamilton sign a waver taking all responsibility for his jewelry and whatever issues it may bring....be done with it. If he needs an MRI and has to have it cut out then let the doctors deal with it. Same for any other driver that wants to pierce his body wherever.
