Ford Performance springs add-on?

Hi all,

I have a stock 2017 GT 350 and have an opportunity to get a cheap set of FP lowering springs. I don't track the car, it's a daily and I realize it's necessary to be mindful of scraping. Totally just doing it for wheel gap.

I'm sure this was discussed heavily in the day but is there any other parts that I need beyond the springs? Can an alignment be done as usual using the OEM specs or is there some special alignment spec required?

fwiw I've heard the Ford Performance products will give you a very stiff ride experience. If you're staying street might not be the best option.

Assuming you mean the magneride springs. I daily them on my BULLITT, they are still but not crazy so. I ride them on the crappy roads we have around Philly and don't find it HORRIBLE. I still have my stock springs and never even thought of going back. So it may just depending on your local roads, how much you drive the car and how much stiffness you can stand.

I have had the FP springs and swaybars installed for years and there is no reason I would go back to the original springs. If you want lower and wheel/fender gap minimized then mission accomplished. The springs will lower by 3/4 to 1 inch. I didn't notice any harshness that would change my mind however I travel on decent roads and only drive 6 months out of the year. After spring installation, you can have it aligned to factory specs with no issues.

If you change the ride height, you need a new alignment.

I installed the ford performance springs on my car and coupled it with an R rear sway bar. 3/4 inch drop, ride is a wee bit stiffer but I actually think it improved over the stock springs as they seem better matched to the magneride dampers. Stock alignment settings are doable, I went with a custom alignment and maxed out the fronts at -1.75 degrees and tire wear is perfect along with aggressive back road + track driving. I did not install camber plates.

"Need"? No. Are there some really good, value-return on your investment things you can do while you're already in there? Absolutely. Not required, but if you can get the matching sway bars, that's a nice package. Camber plates are another thing to do 'since you're in there' type thing. Adjustable sway bar end links are an affordable rock solid choice as well. Your alignment guy will always praise you for aftermarket rear camber and toe arms. I do my own alignments and I would flat out refuse to do a 350 with stock arms in the rear, LOL.

Stock. Without camber plates, the only thing you can adjust in the front is toe, and the stock numbers (or even a little closer to 0 if you want) are quite good. The rear there's just no reason to play around outside stock numbers unless you're on the track and know what you're trying to fix/change.

Eehhhhh, semantics when you say "custom alignment". And apologies in advance if I misunderstood your post, because without camber plates (you stated you don't have) there's literally nothind to adjust in the front but toe. And the stock toe specs are actually ruuullyyyy darn good for tire wear and superb handling/stability. Thus I'm curious how much "custom" stuff they did. If you have -1.75° stock with no camber plates (both sides), that's pretty darn good as well.

I have the FP Magnaride springs on my 2020 GT PP2. I think it actually rides better than stock, seems more planted. In track mode it can get little rough depending on the road, but switch to sport or normal and it is fine. Lowered my car about 1/2".

As far as other parts, nothing else is really "needed", but as others have said, stock you can't adjust camber, so you are stuck with whatever camber you have. At a minimum I would add camber plates, no extra work to add them while installing the front springs, then you have the adjustability if for some reason you want it.

Not at all true with the FP GT350/Magneride springs. Sure they're stiffer than stock, but any lowering spring will be. They're far from excessive though and for a pure street car I think they're a great setup. I would recommend pairing them with their matching swaybar set as the bars are paired to match with the springs and work perfect together. It does lower the car some, but not to a major extent.

First I totally LOVE that Shelby! Great color and stripes! haha Second, after some track experience I added the Steeda Self Leveling springs (for Magnaride), their upgraded sway bars and camber plates to raise my GT level of handling. I got a little lowering and a more confident ride all around. Basically adding mods to a PP1 GT to get it closer to GT350 or Mach 1 handling level.
