It's apples and oranges comparing a software update to heavy duty diesel trucks and relatively low production mustangs. As much as I'd love to have a free power update, I don't see it happening. Trucks are the big 3s bread and butter and they have been in a heated chase for power and towing levels for years.

Not sure why ford would offer a power update on the Eco while The GM 2.0 is already going to make less. Logic would say that they would update the 435 horses on the GT to match the 450-460 for the new Camaro.

Last, offering a free update would pretty much squash any demand for the the after market (albeit Ford Racing) ProCal update. If they were gonna give a freebie, I doubt they would invest in a for profit tune.

I think since Ford is touting the EcoBoost as the midrange engine, they want it to compete with the Camaro V6, which is the midrange engine. The turbo 4 is the base.

The first point may be true but the last 2 points I would disagree with.

The Mustang EB is competing against the Camaro V6 and not the 2.0 both because of the numbers and because they are both the mid range option.

And upping it to 330hp would have little effect on aftermarket sales. 330hp at the crank is still not the same as 330+hp at the wheels. If ppl are going to mod they will regardless of where the stock tune is

I agree they will mod. But Livernois, or Cobb, or whoever, isn't going to offer a free upgrade tune when they are selling a tune. It's simple business. And I do agree somewhat that GM probably markets their V6 Camaro more as a competitor to the Ecoboost than the V6.

Just as devil's advocate though, we are basing most of this hope of a free tune on the word of one service tech/rep at a dealership and a vague sentence at the end of an article. I'm just trying in my mind to come up with a reason they would do this.

The mustang is not a high volume product, I don't see this marketing technique, which if true, will really boost sales enough to justify the cost. The Ecoboost now is solely, well mostly, responsible for the big sales increases the mustang is seeing. But trust me, this one topic where I'd happily be wrong.

You have to understand that Ford is really pushing the EcoBoost brand really hard. Almost all of thier entire model lineup (except super duty) comes with an EcoBoost motor or is optional. Hell, the Ford GT has an EcoBoost V6. Ford is trying to show people that EcoBoost is the future and they'll do everything they can to keep the name relevant

Ford is hoping to get a ton of overseas sales with the EcoBoost Mustang where they tax your car based upon the displacement. Ford is pushing EcoBoost really hard in those countries.

Perhaps Ford will release an upgrade package that requires Ford Racing parts like they've done with past models. And if the MY16 isn't showing a difference in power it may be because Ford could still be working on the tune or package. All we can do is wait and see (and hope!).

Guys just go get a real tune instead of taking a chance on waiting for some free re-flash that probably is going to feel like it barely did anything at all and might not happen anyway. When I went from my aftermarket tune to the Cobb ots tune to try it, it felt almost close to stock again. Do an aftermarket tune and don't look back :)

Agreed, the aftermarket tune is the best way to go. I just liked hearing that there was an update coming. I'm putting together some cash to tune, I should getting seeking this option soon

I'm really excited about working with livernois, they are very close to my home and have been great so far with service and explanation. MAP sounds good too, just distance, and Internet support would only be available to me

Nice choice, so you will be going in to get a dyno tune? I almost considered driving up there to get one once I'm done bolting things on but haven't asked about the process

Seems like a solid choice, let us know how it turns out when you do it.
