how long have you been boosted on the stock OPG? I always felt there was more hype then reality to the OPG issue and no one wants to figure out the real issue.
I have been boosted for 14k miles (car had 2k miles when I boosted it). I think if you aren't shifting high (shifting at 7200 is high for me) and don't hit the rev limiter a lot OPG should be fine, unless you are just unlucky.

Don't get me wrong though, I would feel better having done that upgrade and could take advantage of some more RPMs. It's on my list lol

That makes me feel better, I'm boosting at 3k and haven't had the pleasure of meeting my rev limiter once outside a dyno

Clutch was the first to go on mine, then wheel hop killed my right axle shortly after that. Transmission lasted a while longer but eventually had the same fate, and then the built mt82 after that.

The only thing that has held up was the opg/cs (knock on wood) I don't shift high and have only hit the limiter a time or two.
Exact same path I went down to the T,

Couldnt tell you because I did cam/oil pump gear/sprocket before boost. but my clutch does not like me right now after 2500 boosted miles... all depends on tires and driving habits to be honest.

Clutch

But just remember if the OPG or CG do go, its alot more than just replace with another part like a clutch... Failures may be rare but a few hundred bucks could save your motor. That being said staying below redline definitely lowers the possibility.

Planning on definitely doing opg Cs, just a matter of waiting a two month period or so. A couple of hundred isn't bad for the parts (400) but then you have install at (1300). It will still get done, but after the 8k spend on blowing it, will need a bit of a cool off period with the wife before I end up dead and can't drive the car at all

Thank you guys! About how long was the install? The garage that I would be able to do the work at is about 2 hours away, but the savings would definitely be awesome!

If I was only doing this one job (and not the Whipple too, which just meant I didn't have to reinstall the front drive accessories and not the intake manifold) I would say about 8-10 hours. That's taking your time and never doing it before. If I had to do it again I could prob do it in half the time. I spent a solid 45min getting the oil pickup tube bolts back on. Once I did the electric tape trick, 15 minutes later I had the entire timing cover back on.

I concur with DIY OPG. The resources here and on other forums make the job super easy. Just follow the Ford service manual and it's like super simple adult legos!

I would give yourself two full days. It may take less but plan on that.

Theres several great resources on here and other forums to learn how to do it. It is long and a little nerve wracking but its actually not that hard. I'm not home at the moment but when I get back on my personal PC I will PM you a ton of threads on the job that I have bookmarked.

I did OPG/CS in about 6 hours start to finish, however I stopped at installing the A/C belt and left the coolant hoses, coolant tank, and some other little stuff off so I could do the blower the next day.

The key is to stay organized and worth methodically, follow the steps and triple check your work.

I've done a million mods and taken apart a bunch of critical items but this one had me the most anxious for some reason. Just make sure to spin the motor over by hand at least 4 revolutions before trying to crank it up. I also used the flood start (push gas pedal to floor and hold it while starting) to prime the pump before I let it run on it's own.

Funny side note: I had the BBQ tick before the OPG install. Now it's long gone.

Lol, a bunch of good information. Unfortunately the wife won't jive with me being gone that long and leaving her with 2 toddlers. I'm finishing my MBA in December and am a finance guy for Merrill, so that eats up 6 days of my week. Due to time constraints I may just rent a car and drop it off with MAK perf
