I have a 2015 GT and I performed the first Oil Change today at 5k miles. I purchased the spec filter FL500s, but when I removed the factory filter it didn't have a model number on it and was much shorter? Has anyone encountered this?

Thanks

Yep.

I was surprised how short the factory filter was too....

Yeah same here, I did the royal purple oil and filter and was something for me too.

The factory doesn't necessarily source parts from the same suppliers as Motorcraft does. Motorcraft is a separate business unit and will have different priorities when selecting suppliers.

Pretty typical for cars from the factory to have a different oil filter than what you'd get from the dealership.

Cut that old one open to see how it looks inside ... if so, add photos here.

My factory oil filter was exactly the same as the motorcraft one.

They probably just buy whatever was the cheapest.

Glad I found this post. Was disappointing. I cut mine open the filter media is smaller than my wife's old 2.2l cavalier! :s

+1 Mine was also smaller from the factory. Not sure if the Motorcraft and Ford Racing filters are the same size but when I compared the OEM to the Ford Racing one I installed I was pretty shocked lol.

I just changed my oil today. The dealer changed it the first three times so I am clueless as to what it had in the beginning. However, when I changed oil today the old one was the FL-500S filter per Ford spec. So maybe there's a different one from the factory? Could it be for break in? Just thinking out loud...
