Failed inspection.

I’m here at the shop picking it up now. He’s saying the 02 sensors never get hot enough to read. He flashed it to stock. Still won’t read. He says he needs it to get to 800 degrees. He believes the cold weather isn’t helping .

K that's BS cause the rear o2's on my gutted cats work just fine with my custom tune, & stock tune. Did he take it for a drive ? Cause I've seen 1000+ on mine. Is he 100% positive the rear o2 are functional ?

Hello; I have been following this thread in order to learn. Currently in my area there is no inspection so for now I do not have to worry. That can change with one or more of the alphabet agencies makes a decision.
I now ask the seller of a Mustang if the cats are still in place. I will begin to ask about tunes next time I go look at a GT. In the days before the Ukraine invasion I started removing Mustangs from my list of cars to go see if a tune is advertised. I personally do not have any experience adding or removing a tune.
What the OP is going thru is a nightmare I want to avoid.

Exactly. Mine are on, and I really couldn't care less about the P0420/P0430 and the CEL on. Doesn't affect a g-damn thing.

So good. These were the same guys in my head when I pulled up to the pimply faced valets at the Inn my wife and I were having drinks at last weekend. As I pulled into the Inn there was a group of four or five boys that started smiling widely as they saw my GT coming their way. One kid takes my plate # and comes to my window but before he says anything I ask him if its okay if I park it. His answer was "No sir, these spaces are just too tight". I was expecting the "no" but the "these spaces are just too tight" bit made me grin. Anyway, this was the scene that was running through my mind as I looked for a parking spot close by.

Funny because that's how I actually passed inspection. It's when they're not ready you don't want to show up. The amount of misinformation in this thread is incredible. P0420/P0430 certainly does affect the way your car runs and will cause it to run rich. Hurt anything? No. It will just hurt your pocket wasting excess fuel for no reason. If you're throwing codes, get some spacers.

So first I want to thank everyone that commented and tried to help me. After over a month I finally passed inspection. I decided I didn’t want to deal with tuners anymore so I took a few commenters suggestion to see I could change my vehicle garage location. I physically went down to the DMV and did it. It worked. For tax purposes I just had to make sure I’m not billed by two counties. I did have a slight hiccup. When I went to one place to get a safety inspection he saw I didn’t have a sticker. He took the car in and then asked me why I failed. I let him know that when I had to get emissions the previous inspector said some of my monitors were showing not ready. So he gets all suspicious and says I’m checking to see if you have cats. Well he checks and then brings my car out without any sticker. He said yea you got cats but I’m not inspecting your car since I’m about to retire and don’t want to get my license pulled. So I’m really dumbfounded now. I said why can’t you inspect. He says you don’t have rear 02 sensors. I couldn’t believe it. For one I do second from what I read it’s not part of the safety inspection. Anyway I took it to another place and it passed no problem. This was an interesting experience and I don’t think I will ever mod a car again lol.
