You could have been writing about my situation from a few years ago. Aftermarket tuner, no codes but monitors not resetting. Tune revisions didn’t fix it. Had to go back to stock to pass. After each and every tune change I would get a P0315 I had to clear out. It was a hassle. Even tried the driving procedure. Drove it hundreds of miles. I don’t know what tuners are doing but they are causing the issue. I finally went to a Ford tune and zero issues since.

The thing is, I never got that code or any code for that matter until the other day flashing back to stock for this emissions business. I flashed it when I first got it, then went back to stock once to compare something, then back to the 93 tune when I got a revision to tweak something. No codes, no problems. Then going back to stock the other day I got the code. I'm curious if I'll get it again after flashing back to the aftermarket tune once my inspection is done. Hopefully not.

I was probably good to go like you said now, but I figured might as well not take the chance. So I went out for another drive after letting the car cool down for 8 hours, and within 15 min the EVAP monitor turned ready. So now I'm good across the board.

I learned something here after this ordeal though:

Don't make a bonehead move when you know better, like disconnecting the battery and then going for an inspection a couple days later. I'm kicking myself over that. But regardless, I'll be buying a memory saver now for my ECU just in case I must do something that involves disconnecting the battery, particularly when I'm approaching an inspection.

Also, I'm not so sure anymore that there is such a thing as a tune that won't affect emissions directly or indirectly. I'm sure some will disagree with me here, and that's fine. Maybe I'm just the unlucky exception. But even though my tune does not actually disable any emissions-related components, as per my tuner, sometimes changing anything can make it harder for the monitors to run and go into a ready state. Either way, the end result is the same - can't pass emissions. Now, after I pass my inspection, I'll of course flash the 93 tune back onto my car because it's still a great tune. And if all my monitors then eventually go READY over the course of the next year, I'll stand corrected and retract what I said. Time will tell.

There are tunes that will still pass OBD readiness. Obviously Ford Performance and also Livernois offers tunes that are CARB legal. I would consider a tune from Livernois they have a CARB EO#, even though its from California, a CARB legal tune is legal in all 50 states.

Don't feel bad, I did it twice :frown:

It's what I get for RTFM-ing: "Before changing the tire, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery."

Just wanted to pop up on this old thread I started last year about my tune that was preventing me from passing emissions, and say that my problem was finally solved. Huge thanks to Wengerd Performance!

For anyone who followed this thread, and as you can tell from my profile signature below, my car is mostly stock. My previous tune would not allow my monitors set no matter how many miles and drive cycles I did. I finally switched to Wengerd based on reviews from this forum, and within maybe 30 miles of driving and drive cycles since yesterday, all monitors have set. And the car pulls just as hard, if not harder, than the previous tune. Very happy with my new tune!

Thanks for the update. Who was your other tuner? Might save others the same trouble.

My 2019 Bullitt is due for emissions test next year and it sucks. The Stang has always passed with no drama. I put a new battery in my Odyssey van and had to get two registration extensions to keep driving it. This went on for about 50 miles then it went "ready" and finally passed, I feel your pain!

Shoemaker Performance. His tune felt great as well. No complaints there. But despite the couple revisions he sent me when I brought this to his attention last year, nothing he did seemed to work. He assured me that no emissions related monitors were turned off in his tune. But all I know is my O2 sensors would never set on his tune. Wengerd's tune? ... My O2 monitors were the first to set after a short drive lol. I'm no detective, but ...

I didn't have an e85 tune from Shoemaker, but I had his 93 octane tune. It never was able to pass emissions despite his claims that it would, especially since my car is essentially stock aside from the tune. Long story short is, he was never able to solve my problem and I ultimately switched to Wengerd Performance and their 93 octane tune. Never had a problem passing emissions again, and the car performs as good as it did with Shoemaker's tune.

Just went through this myself. Deadline is two months away so I figured I'd check with my OBD reader first. Bunch of monitors showing "not ready". Catalyst, O2's, Evap, etc. No CEL's though. Emailed my tuner and he sent me a revision right away. Loaded it and did the ford specific drive cycles. First day drove around a good 45 minutes but no change in readiness. Checked it next day and O2 and Evap went green. Did the catalyst specific cycle and that went green after sitting overnight. Fuel monitor will not ready due to my fuel system but they allow one can show not ready and it passed. Back to stock is not an option for me due to FI and long tubes. Only have the E85 tune, no 93. Get a code reader and confirm readiness when you go back to stock. Every reflash requires the drive cycle procedures.
