Hello; On my 2004 chevy pickup I get a similar code every few years. Turned out to be the gas cap. I have an aftermarket locking cap and was able to replace the O ring eventually. Before that I was able to clean the cap and rub some Vaseline on the gasket which sealed things up.
That said there are purge valves and plumbing as part of the fuel storage systems of modern cars. This is supposed to prevent fuel vapors from escaping into the air. This system can also leak.

A caution when filling up the gas tank. I have been told it is now wise to overfill the gas tank after the fill nozzle clicks off.

How is this relevant to a vehicle that doesn't have a gas cap?

@poneyexp what code are you getting?

Hello; I see these capless fill ports on some cars. I do not know if they are foolproof. If they do happen to be foolproof such will eliminate a possible leak.

The evaporative purge valve is prone to failure as is the charcoal canister vent valve. There is also the canister itself and lines from the front to the back. Ford's capless filler can leak as well.
A smoke test will show if the system is leaking to the atmosphere. If the purge valve is leaking internally you can test to see if it passes vacuum when the electrical connector is disconnected.
Just hope the issue isn't on the tank, I believe the subframe has to come down to access the top of the fuel tank.

Hello back. I wouldn’t trust it either. Odds are someone will build a better fool certain to defeat it.

^^^ Yes this is the most common but other part failures can cause this. The code itself can also be a fuel tank vacuum issue.

If so, fuel tank pressure sensor is a bitch to change. Also check your fuel flap.

Once you make your part change or find any leak in the evap system clear the code using an off the shelf OBD-II scanner.

Now this is where the fun starts…

If you have to Smog your car you’re gonna need to get all your monitors to come back online. This will require several drive cycles which can be found using the search tool. The hardest to come back online are the 02 and 02 Heater monitors.

When I did a smoke test, smoke was coming out of the evap canister in the rear.

After replacing it, codes were gone
