@SheepDog has given you some great tips and tools to use when you try again and he is 100% rite once you start turning the engine coyotes take many many rotations to get back to all the marks lining up and all it takes is 1 or 2 teeth off and your timing is off, take your time follow every step and you will get this man then 1 day you will be the guy on here helping someone, best of luck

If the chain jumped/the cam isn’t aligned properly. Will the cam still be out of place when doing the new timing job? And if so while timing it would it still remain out of place and cause the new timing job to fail also?

So I believe I found the issue.

Aligned the RH (passenger side) cam face mark to the top position in relation to the key way at 12 o’clock. Removed the RH timing chain, then rotated the keyway to the 5 o’clock position. And found the LH driver cam face mark exactly 180 degrees the wrong way.

Therefore the original timing had the LH (driver side) cam rotated a full 180 degrees wrong, tensioned, then while moving onto the passenger RH side, set it up for failure exactly 180 degrees out of timing. All because of the initial LH side cam position when timed. The LH set up the RH for future failure.

So now I’m at the driver side cam face, and have not removed the chain yet. The face is 180 degrees in the wrong direction, so I will turn the crank 1 time to leave the keyway still at the 5 o’clock position, but correct the passenger side cam first before continuing onto the RH cam and chain.

Here is the driver side cam face while the keyway was only initially moved from the 12 o’clock to the 5 o’clock position: the LH face mark is incorrectly positioned 180 degrees.

After rotation, it’s in the correct position and the crank keyway is also at the 5 position now. The tooth mark is off by 1.

can someone verify this is all coming correctly?

Also had to remove the new sprocket to find out the timing mark was on the inside. I do remember that from the first install. Oh how helpful boundary! So I marked it properly for the time being. And no the sprocket is not facing the wrong direction. It’s legit on the backside of the sprocket.

The previous timing change must have skipped the step between timing the LH and RH cams. I even pointed that out when it was time to do it last time. Should’ve done it myself. They must have not done the full first rotation, and only went from 5 to 12 position. Unbelievable that this happened but also crazy how the motor didn’t blow up, but actually ran with a cam face rotated 180 degrees the exact opposite direction…

Front cover is on, as well as the LH valve cover, looking into the catch can valve now before installing the RH valve cover.

It’s nearly 4 AM. Long night, but got a lot done.

Completely uninstalled the kit and work area. Redid timing, front cover + valve covers back on, also got rid of the RH valve spring/ball mechanism. My goal was to get to this point and allow the RTV to dry/harden overnight. I’m at that point now.

Tomorrow morning agenda:
Clean spark plugs, reinstall the harmonic balancer, pulleys/belts. Fill fluids back up (even fuel at this point lol). Test how the stock tune runs. Go from there.

If all things go well hopefully the blower can go back in the afternoon/evening.

Yes this is what I was talking about. @SheepDog explained it in more detail so I figured you knew what I meant.. 👍🏻. Glad your car doesn’t seem to be hurt from all these timing issues. Hopefully it runs and drives good and you can start enjoying the car again..

Very nice man im very happy to see the progress and all see clear indicators that it was the timing like we thought, once you get it all buttoned up make sure she runs good then complete the blower install and flash the tune, best of luck brotha cant wait to see how it turns out

Man, I wish I had seen this over the weekend. Painful, but I have been in and out of the front of mine at least 4 times now, so I feel your pain. I hope that what you did, solves your issue. I'm looking forward to seeing you get through this. Not to get ahead of your progress, but I am still baffled by the tensioner/belt issue as well. Where in PA. are you?

Follow the procedure I gave you. It is directly from Ford. The chain didn't jump. It was set up incorrectly to begin with. Like I mentioned before. Put the old and new crank sprocket next to each other on a bench and make 100% sure that the timing marks and keyway line up. Boundary did have some issues in the past with their sprockets being marked incorrectly

I legit removed the sprocket, found the mark on the back, then did this:
Slid both sprockets on, and used the timing mark from the oem sprocket to mark the new one. The keyway made sure it was on the correct position. I followed the instructions very closely, and watched a video as well at the same time just to be sure.

The tensioner has been in the back of my mind too, I’m still baffled by that one to be honest. I have shorter belts to try so we will see! Near Philly region.
