Question for the people that are experiencing oil consumption on their GT350.

How did you break-in the engine? Did you follow Ford's recommendations (100 miles before WOT and 1,000 miles before performance/competition driving) OR did you redline/WOT it right from the beginning?

Which method did you follow and how much oil does your engine consume?

I'm picking up my brand new 2017 GT350 tomorrow (10 miles on it). I'm reading conflicting information online. I want to break-in the engine properly to minimize the oil consumption the Voodoo engine is known for.

I'm not having consumption issues but I probably waited 50 miles before WOT. Well maybe not quite 50. I did wait over 1000 before tracking it.

I have been driving mine wot and to redline since day one. I did my first oil change at 1500 miles and the dipstick read full. I'm now at 2300 miles and it hasn't consumed any oil.

I have a feeling oil consumption is less related to break in procedure and more to engine piston and ring tolerances from factory.. some are "tighter" than the others, or some rings are better than others ...

My E60 M5 was hungry for oil (and fuel) like a mad bull, I topped over a quart every 500-800 miles depending on usage... who cares, it's just oil.

Now my gt350, I never had to top off oil; and now it's at 7400 miles...

I waited until 100 miles before I did WOT runs and I am waiting until I have 1000 miles before I take it to the track. In the meantime I have had some spirited runs at high speed on the freeway though.

In a 1000 miles with no WOT until about 300 miles I've gone from the top hole on the dipstick to the bottom. Don't know how much oil that equates to.

It would be interesting to see what Ford finds in returned engines

I'll only say that I followed Ford's engine break-in procedure. Paid special attention to the part where they said no extended WOT. Consumes very roughly about 1qt/1500mile. No competition driving. 10k miles in.

I followed Ford's recommendation. I didn't go WOT until after the first oil change which I did at 1000 miles. Never drove above 4000 rpms until oil temp was >180. You gotta remember, the clutch is brand new too.

I took delivery of my GT350 the first week of January, and you can imagine how easy I needed to drive it on the frozen Chicago roads. No WOT for a while, there was no sense in even trying.

Yeah some, the oil level was about at the top of the cross hatch marks and now it is about half way between the holes. I currently have about 850 miles on the car.

I was reading through the forums and some say the people that did not WOT/redline from the beginning are the ones who experience more oil consumption. It seems that is irrelevant and it's really just luck of the draw.
