Just bought a 2016 Mustang GT, Certified Pre-Owned, 3,800 miles. Apparently the dealer reset the computer and I'm waiting for 3 of the emission monitors (Oxy Sensor Mon, Oxy Snesor Heater, Catalyst Mon) to complete so I can get the emissions check and register the car. The car has no error codes and no pending error codes, I'm checking daily.

I tried a couple of drive cycles without success, I have put about 500 miles on the car. This seems excessively slow, especially a car with so few miles.

Would the dealer diagnostics show anything that the code scanner doesn't? The dealer isn't all that close, so I don't want to go over there only to have them say keep driving it.

Thanks

Can't speak to the codes, but the other thing to keep in mind is that some of the emissions monitor resets won't occur if you let the car get under 1/4 tank of gas or over 3/4.

Did the dealer reset the computer, or does it have an aftermarket tune in it?

But it's a certified pre-owned car. Surely Ford would have checked for a tune. :giggle:

You can't be gingerly about it. Keep driving, make sure the car is up to temp (170 degrees at minimum). You need to get some of those sensors HOT. So when it gets up to temp, womp on it in extended stretches and several times. And do not unplug the battery.

This isn't the concrete information you need to figure out what is going on. Doesn't sound like you have factual information, just guesses.

Take the car to the dealership, hand them the keys, and tell them to get the damn car emissions legal.

I would have thought so. They did remove a cold air intake and replace it with the OEM air filter and box

Interesting, since most of the reading I've done says it needs steady throttle to get them to complete, but I did run it hard a few times.

I called the dealer and they are supposed to be trying to figure out what to do before I bring the car in.

Depends on the monitor. For instance, Catalyst efficiency needs to be up to temp and run at a relatively steady state so the rear O2's can indefinitely tell that the cats are working. But the cats need to get hot before they start to catalyze unburned fuel. So for instance if you get the car up to temp, then give it a good flogging, the cats should be hot and start catalyzing and the computer will see that after steady state driving. This is in a perfect world but OBDII can be touchy as you have found.

Hmmm... that could be a cause for concern. Certain cold air intakes require a tune to work correctly. What device do you use to scan for codes? It wouldn't be the Torque App by chance would it?

Wouldn't surprise me, taking it to the dealer on Tuesday, will specifically tell them to check for a tune.
