EB Mustang -VS- Focus RS (AWD)


I think the Focus RS changes the game plan a little...

I think Focus RS would easily beat EB.

It's an amusing process, and produced a best 0-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds and a quarter-mile pass of 14.1 seconds at 97.8 mph. The upsized braking hardware and P Zero tires produced a best 60-0 mph stop of 106 feet, with the other three stops hovering in the 107-foot range. Those acceleration results beat the GTI by 0.1 second, but fall short of the potential speed from a WRX launched as if you've stolen it. The Mustang posted a 25.5-second lap time around the figure eight, tying the WRX but trailing the GTI by 0.4 second. At an average 0.96 g laterally, the Mustang tied what we recorded from the GTI.

MT EB Review

If EB is on par with GTI and WRX, I think Focus RS needs to lot better to outgun Golf R, WRX STI, etc. Lighter weight might be the key.

Focus RS holds no appeal to me, even in AWD and with the 2.3L when its priced at $30-35k. Its still a compromise.

The ideal garage is like a Mustang GT + F150. Specialized vehicles for DD/performance and utility/hauling. I see a Focus ST as the compromise vehicle. 4 doors, 4 seats, decent cargo space, decent performance, cheap at $25k. But at $35k I'd want one of the real choices.

I just drove the ecoboost on an autocross course. i own an ST. I was very impressed by the EB. I still would rather have my ST, but I was still very impressed. The RS would be GT competitor for me. I will likely either upgrade to a PP GT or a RS.

the st is only a few hundred pounds lighter. the handling is quite a bit better than the stang but thats because its front wheel drive and lighter. honestly, the only thing that would keep me with an st is that I got leather recaros, nav, etc etc for 25k and the ecoboost car with performance package and those options would be 35k.

Thanks! I've been considering the Mustang because, after 1.5 years, I've finally convinced myself that my ST is just too small for me (I'm 6'7"). The Mustang, on the other hand, fits me like a glove. The handling of the ST is truly addictive and I'm worried that I'm going to miss it too much. I've been trying to get some initial feedback to see if it's right for me before I drive it.

Reasons I'd pick the Mustang EB

1. Room, I'm a big guy 6'3" 250 and the B-Pillar is always in the way of my shoulder/elbow on small 4/5 door cars. If it was a 3 door, different story.

2. Rear wheel drive. Hate getting pulled around, unless I'm in snow/ice or mud. I live in California so I don't see much of any of those.

3. Looks, the Stang just looks like sex on wheels!

4. Trunk space I gotta have room for my valuables in the trunk, not on the folded seat.

5. I don't really need the back seat, just a shelf for my German Shepherd to lay on if she's with us.

6. I couldn't get an ST anyhow, because my wife can't drive a stick, and I know she'd want to try. I could get the EB with an automatic, and have a very happy lady.

Just test drove a Fiesta ST.

HOLY CRAP. This car is unquestionably more fun than my friend's '13 GT. I still want to try a '15 mustang before making any decisions, but I think we have a winner in the "most fun" category.
