I switched up from my M3 street car, and my M3 race car to one Ecoboost stang for balance and feel both on and off the track.
E36/46/9x? I'm thinking about picking up one of the S550s to replace my E46 for fun DDing with occasional track time, and while I kinda miss having a turbo car, I'm not sure if I'll be happy down on power/up on weight.

If you actually owned the 2015 and look at the hood design it steps up twice from the fenders, to make room for the taller 5.0 setup. The GT350 mentions a low profile or flat hood for better visibility over it. Seeing that the ecoboost motor sits lower I would hope a similar low profile hood will fit. So I can also get the best visibility.

Ah, so that's what you're talking about when you say a '5.0 hood'. So how much excess height could be removed w/ the EB?

Now that I put on the Eibach Sportlines the hood seems huge. In the center if you removed the cowl, I'd say atleast 3-4". Would make a big difference in visibility.

Put a piece of clay between the highest point in the area of interest (assuming engine cover?), shut the hood, open, and measure. I'm curious to know now that it's been brought up...

Also guys, the 'cowl' is the area spanning between the fenders at the base of the windshield. A 'cowl induction hood' takes advantage of the high pressure at this location for induction purposes on some cars...and others it's just for looks. The stock mustang hood is not a cowl induction hood...like ES said, it's just raised in the center.

Yes, I guess I'm just being lazy and calling it cowl because that's how it looks. But wind tunnel tests shows no back pressure there. It's just raised up for clearance.

The space between the engine and the hood is passive pedestrian impact protection for Euro standards. In the case of a pedestrian impact, the hood crushes and cushions the blow.
I remember reading an interview with the designer. He stated something to the effect of if he had another $100 to spend on the design, it would have gone in to active pedestrian protection so he could lower the hood.
As long as we're chopping, I'd take out the extra 4-6" in front of the ecoboost too.
But hell, the thing's sexy as-is. I'll just take comfort in the fact that I'm subsidizing the safety of Europeans that don't know how to use crosswalks.

I would think more visibility would be safer for more reasons. I'm not saying anything looks bad about the oem hood. I think it is really nice. Just seems out of place too huge once you lower the car. It's not chopping it up I think it's a functional positive, well not for pedestrians lol.

Call it a "power dome" like the pointless bump on an M3.

If its actually aluminum, there is not going to be much, if any, weight savings by going to cheap aftermarket carbon hoods or fiberglass. Getting a full race skin for some dollars, probably not worth it unless you are competing.

Are there any spring setups that lower the front more than the rear out there right now? I'm hearing H&R will, but can't find them with a quick look.

For the Ecoboost you will need springs made just for the Ecoboost. The weight over the front axle is less than the v6/v8. I went with the Eibach sportlines and absolutely love the handling now. it corners much better than I expected. But it's a even drop 1" front and back. On the v6/v8 it lowers the front more than the rear.
