I get what you're saying but when most people use racetrack/track interchangeably they're not referring to what they're doing at the track but of it as a physical location. A "dragstrip" is a form of a track, only straight.Fair enough but doesn't that terminology seem counter intuitive? Considering dragstrip has the word strip in it. Not to mention the distinction between both styles of racing they separately embody. I know this may be nit-picking to a degree but I don't go to the bar and order a beer with the assumption that the bartender knows I mean whiskey on the rocks.
NHRA (website)- There are 120 member tracks across North America that host NHRA competitions each week in NHRA’s seven geographic regions.
A drag race is an acceleration contest, on a track, or dragstrip, that begins from a standing start between two vehicles over a measured distance.
Wiki (I know not always the best but what I could find)- A dragstrip is a straight, purpose-built racetrack, typically an eighth, ten feet longer than three-sixteenths, or a quarter of a mile long
