Car has just done 7k miles and this morning the "Change Oil Soon" warning flashed up, oil indicator in the computer reckons there is 5% life left.

Thought I saw something about this problem a while back, can't find the right thread though.

Just rung my local dealer and they said they would just reset the indicator next time I am in (I am due in a couple of weeks to get a electric window switch replaced). Don't feel like that is the right course of corrective action.

Is is possible I am genuinely due an oil change this early before the 10k service interval?

You've done well to get to 7k! Mine went at 3.5k. Depends how long your car took to get delivered generally. Just reset it and service when due - or change the oil more often for peace of mind; especially if you've been ragging it.

Standard problem, mine was reset by the garage, as it was only 6 months old and had only done 3,000 miles, easy to reset yourself

Mine had 12% left at 3500 miles so got it changed

I'll check mine today, about 4,600 miles on my 1st change from motorcraft semi-synthetic to Pennzoil synthetic "made from natural gas". The new oil went in after 600 miles of break-in.

2000 miles when mine pinged up the 5% warning. I just reset it and the oil will be changed as per schedule.

If you haven't changed it yet, get it dropped and then reset the indicator:thumbsup:

It popped up for me for the first time today as well, at 1675 miles haha.

Would have thought it's a good idea to do an oil change after the first 1,000 miles or so. BMW require a running in service after 1,200 miles. For the sake of the cost of an oil change, which is basically peanuts, probably worth doing for peace of mind.

Sounds like a lot of dealers aren't "resetting" the oil life timer as part of the PDI - might be worth adding the check of oil life remaining to the delivery checklist...?

Hendy Eastliegh gave me a free oil change at 1,000 miles, and the warning has just popped up on mine as I approach the 10K / 12 months mark, so I reckon they did reset it as part of the PDI and didn't reset it again at the free oil change.

Had my oil changed yesterday @ 4,800 miles by Ford Trowbridge, they are not a Trust store but have one trained mechanic for Mustangs which is a result as it's 3 miles from my house. My nearest Trust is Bristol which I don't really fancy travelling to. ÂŁ132.52 this included visual check of car as well. Never had a bill like that for my last car!
