Could not do it.

This makes interesting reading though. Kind of makes what my dealer said more accurate than the others.

My Alfa 159 was a bit like this. The engine oil and filter change was seperate to the service. Yes you could coincide it but when I had its first service they 'offered' to change the oil as well as they do not need to change it until the oil change message appears.

Note it says the following

** Reset the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor after engine oil and filter changes. Failure to reset the IOLM after oil changes will result in a premature reminder message.

But I was told I would have to have a service by one of the dealers.

Could not do it in what way?

IIRC the option isn't in the engineering mode it's in one of the regular display options. That said, mine wasn't displaying any service msgs so it may be the fact yours is actually asking for a service that is preventing you getting rid of it?

I have Fumotos on several vehicles but switched to NoSpill for everything I bought after 2012.

NoSpill is a better system than Fumoto IMO but the company is a nightmare to buy from. Their business model is to focus entirely on fleet buyers.

You can get Fumotos from many online stores. NoSpill only has their own web site for non-commercial customers and the web page to order finds the wrong item for some vehicles, including Mustangs from 2011 on. They have a hard to find catalog in PDF form where you can look up the actual part number for your car BUT you can't order by part number and the vehicle look-up gives you the wrong part, as I said. So you have to order over the phone and hope they don't transpose some number or something. The part number for 2011 and up Mustangs is 10-12175-01 for the standard system. The NoSpill system is a little more expensive for the 1st vehicle because you need to buy one universal part to open the valves on how ever many cars you install valves on.

Regarding the Fumoto, I would NOT buy the F107 version shown by AM. Fumoto makes valve with nipples for attaching a drain hose. F107S is a short nipple and F107N (I used on my S197) is a slightly longer nipple. Using a drain hose cuts down on spills and splatter. They may have started selling plastic nipples to plug into the nipple-less valve but that's just an extra step and something else to lose.

Damn. Made it a rule in my life not to acquire anything that later in life, might need to be fitted with plastic nipples.

For that reason, I'm out. ;)

So anyway, I phoned Ford Technical. Told them the story and they said its very simple. It should be booked in as a warranty claim.

I then called a mate who works for Ford (why didnt I think of him before?) unfortunately they dont do Mustangs but he said that if it was a Mondeo for example, they would look at it as a warranty and most likely, change the oil and filter under warranty if it was required!

Ford Technical said that the message should not have come up yet and mileage and in the first instance, should be treated as a faulty sensor or the sensor being set wrong in the first place.

He also confirmed it can be re-set without a service unlike one dealer (not mine) told me.

I have always tried to defend dealers when they are slagged off on here (especially mine) but this and Twiggys experience, has knocked my confidence a bit I must admit.

Absolutely not!! How can you ask such a thing. I have done no Silverstone track days, line locks or anything like that and I have NEVER even taken it over 3000 rpm. EVER!
Ahem! The computer doesn't lie. I think your car is quite clever in that it knows you've been ragging the ar$e off it since you got it. :D

Ha ha,

Actually, I haven't. Yes I have my moments nut the average 20.1 mpg on my trip commuter shows that this car has not been ragged. I am genuinely not concerned in the slightest that they could find it has been.

And I think they would really struggle not to honour the warranty for Silverstone! I was invited by the MD of Ford UK after all!

Latest snippet of info is after a call made to Ford warranty and policy who said that 'under no circumstance should I pay for anything, even if the oil does need changing'
