That's probably why some car manufacturers like BMW have a 'running in service' after say 1500 miles. Not sure why Ford doesn't have the same
Exactly this. BMW probably run much tighter 'acceptable tolerance'.

Guys, I am in a meeting at work.
I will explain all later but why pay or do it yourself when you don't need to.

Okay, Quick update. Long story short.

This happened to me. Change Oil Soon message came up so I phoned dealer and they wanted to charge ÂŁ230. If it had not have been silly money I probably would not even had questioned it. If he said say, ÂŁ150 I would have booked it in to have it done and paid my money.

Being the awkward sod I am, I told the service dept that I thought it was stupid money and I called some other dealers.

Some wanted to do a full service, others wanted to charge me for changing the oil. I was even told by one that I would HAVE to have the service or they would not be able to get rid of the message.

Not one out of the four dealers I contacted came up with exactly the same response as any of the others.

So, I contacted Ford technical. The nice man there told me that I should booked it in to my dealer as a warranty item as the message should not be displayed yet and it should be treated as a fault. If the oil is proven to be needing changing, I should only possibly need to pay for oil and filter and nothing else.

Then, through a contact, Ford warranty and policy were contacted and they said that under no circumstances should I pay for anything, even if the oil and filter does need changing.

So, I am getting an oil and filter change done FOC under warranty and the message will be deleted.

I wanted to post this on here because I think this is going to happen to all of us and I dont want to hear of anyone paying for a service, a 30 point check or the oil and filter when I know they should not need to.

I have done 7600 miles and had the car 6 month BTW.

avocet interesting point you make about the book but I am not sure its an issue. It will be recorded on the computer records and I will ask for something to say it was changed.

I may well be showing signs of slowness here (or thickness, take your pick) but reading about 'oil life' now and again & I'm damned if I can find it on my readout.
Can someone point me in the right direction here or am I reading this all wrong?

On the back of Steve's post, I have the same message and I have just gone over 9k miles. Fired an email off to the manager at my dealership asking if this should be done under warranty. Will keep you posted!

Col3371 sorry - no idea mate!

Bit confusing this, I have never had a warning message up regarding oil.
I changed my own oil and filter myself at about 1300.
Then I made a mistake at about 6000 miles to get it done again while my puddle light was being done.
I got charged but I never got a full first service or stamp in book, they will only do that at 10000 miles or first year.
Plus they didn't reset my oil life, I did that.
So it looks like I have to go in at 10000 miles to officially have the recognised first service.

So I have had the oil light on for the last week or so. Called Ford Reading to discuss - and their first reaction was that a service (chargeable) was required. I persisted that this was likely to be only the service indicator, and not really a service required - after only 2600 miles (!). In the end, I think that the service manager contacted Ford UK and then agreed to check oil levels and reset the indicator. This was done (free of charge) at the Ford Newbury service garage this afternoon.

It pays to show the knowledge of the issue - as discussed in the chain above - and persist until you get this done FOC!

I'm glad they did it free of charge if they only checked the levels (dip stick) and reset the counter (3 buttons)
but they need a 5 day course showing the right sequence to press and hold at the right time! :headbonk:
