Try the hot start with the throttle partially opened. Not to the floor, just partially.

The act of filling the fuel and the act of flashing it does all sorts of things to the flex logic. When you re-fill, it turns the learning back on. When you re-flash, sometimes it will restart the learning and sometimes it will start in either "FMEM" or "init AFR" air/fuel ratio, which both can be adjusted and/or turned off. This depends on how the tune is set up and which segments are being replaced when you flash it.

how accurate is the built-in AFR gauge in the car?
first time with the flex tune, my AFR was 10-11 and i was told that was spot on.
recently on the flex tune it was down to mid 9's. now on the E85R tune, it's in the high 9's to creeping into the 10.0- 10.2

The dash afr gauge is exactly as accurate as the injector data, maf data, and learned or programmed stoichiometry.

For instance, if you’re running e10, the programmed stoichiometry is 14.08, the injector data is perfect, but the maf data is off and you’re getting 10% fuel trims then the afr gauge will be off by 10%.

When running a flex tune and transitioning from e10 to e85, I can watch my afr gauge drift from 14 down to 11 as it learns the new stoichiometry (outside of dfco and pe). But I’m also very confident in my injector data and maf cal. My additional timing turns on at around 11.5/1 so I know exactly when it’s safe to go wot. In fact, I would recommend anyone running a flex tune to watch the gauge when switching (assuming your tune is set up accurately).

Last night after work I did this while still under the E85R tune :

Did a full fill that took 8 gallons
Re-flashed the E85R tune
Did a KAM reset
Car Did not start on first attempt
Car started on 2nd try
Idled for 5 minutes and drove it on the surface streets for about 10 miles.
Stopped at the same store and just sat there for 5 minutes.
Car did not start, tried 2x
Re-flashed the E85R tune
Car started on first attempt.

I wonder why they havent replied to your emails yet. They're usually quick about it even on weekends. I got an update just this week but I havent been able to run it.

Anyone experience a runaway rpm or surge? Pulling into a parking lot and let off of the gas and the rpm surges about 500 or so. I'm thinking it's ethanol tune related, maybe just the e85 tune. It's sporadic. Only happened a few times.

In the latest E85R revision....Jon added cranking fuel and 2 more degrees of timing.
The additional cranking fuel works great, no more prolonged starts or
cranking no starts.

On a side note, I am pleased with the 18 MPG...all freeway with AC off on a 236 mile drive between Ethanol stations on the flex tune.

Can’t say I’ve experienced that type of surging. Any idea what your max timing is with the added 2*?

You said he added 2 deg of timing, any idea how? Adding mbt in the idle region can cause idle stability problems. Also if he didn’t change the engine efficiency due to ethanol it can cause the same. Really it all just sounds like issues the [paid] tuner should be dealing with.
