Looking into trying out E85, on a Stock (for now) 2020 Mustang GT. I have a RaceTrac by my house that has it at the pump. I understand the power benefits, but I'm wondering what I can expect for MPG vs 93 Octane.

Does anyone else track their fuel mileage?

I get about 240 miles per tank on E85. It does burn very fast, but I think itā€™s much better for my engine than the sooty burning 93 octane fuel.

Iā€™m sure you will receive some type of benefit with an E85 tune only, but for the money youā€™re going to spend on the tune, I recommend adding all of your performance parts before you pay for a tune, just to get the most bang for your buck.

Expect to get around 30% worst mpg on E85. I would not use E85 as daily, as it requires more cleaning maintenance on engine. This is my experience reading on and using E85 myself.

Hi. I was thinking about going to E85 during the summer and switch back to 93 during the winter storage time.
- What other mods did you do to complement using E85?
- Which tuner did you go with?.
- What HP and TQ increase did you get with them?.
Thanks for your help

Are you sure about this? I think when I fill up with 93 the dashboard gauge says 183 to empty. But that's from memory, I might be wrong

I got 12.8 MPG on my last canyon run.
To me itā€™s worth it, not just for the fun factor but itā€™s also @ $1.50 per gallon cheaper than 91 around here.

Depends how you drive and how much freeway time. I do a 30/70 split usually. (City/highway) And I usually see 220 to empty but getting 240-250 isn't out of the question. If you spend a lot less time on the highway you'll drop fast.

what extra maintenance? i am newer to the E85 scene, only been using it since mid july but that is all that I have run in it since then. i have the Livernois tuner and was told that it is a flex fuel tune which can adjust/compensate for the varying amount of ethanol that is found at the E85 pumps. i was planning on using 93 only pretty soon as the weather changes and ambient temps begin to drop.

and OP- i do a lot of highway driving. if i tried to get good mileage for a tank i would get 28-30 pretty easily on 87. i tried the same for shits and giggles on E85 and really couldnt get over 24. normal driving on 87 (mix of daily commute and a handful of pretty spirited bursts) i would get 22-24. normal driving on E85 put me down to around 15-18.

and note: that was 87vsE85. id imagine 93 would be slightly above 87 fuel mileage wise. lately i have been paying much attention to mileage, just driving the car to enjoy it. but i did want to see what it was capable of getting mileage wise just to know.

Do it, youā€™ll love it! I have Ultimate Headers catted LTHs, Steeda x-pipe, factory active exhaust, PMAS CAI kit (no tune required version), Lund Racing tunes on an nGauge. I never dynoā€™d the car until after the mods and it made 469 rwhp /434 rwtq on the E85R tune. I also didnā€™t switch back and forth between tunes during the winter when I was up north. I keep mine on the Flex tune the majority of the time and just pump what I need, whether itā€™s 93 or E85...Easy Peasy.

Oh yeah, Iā€™m sure, I watch it all of the time. Whenever I fill up, my gauge always says 269 miles to empty, but I gas up at 240 miles; with 29 to spare. I donā€™t trust that gauge to the last mile, so I play it safe and donā€™t go below 25 miles DTE.

From a cost savings point of view it is basically a wash, at least here in Long island New York...it is definitely more fun though, you can feel the power and torque comes up early in the rpm. But also a pain to fill-up gas more often...if you have the extra money burning in your pocket do it, why not. Don't expect huge difference, but definitely noticeable on NA car.
