E85 check engine light

Rather than a Flex tune, I have BAMA's E85 Race tune on my '22 GT. It pulls much harder than stock, from off idle to redline. That is a welcome improvement with the tall gearing in these D4 transmissions!
Extra spark timing right out of the gates. Had to do a revision to get the torque limit tables updated to prevent throwing P061A and P061B codes.

I test E content at every fill up. BAMA says the tune is safe down to 75%; others say 70% is fine. My stations have been consistently testing at 80%+. That's since early April so we'll see what the supply chain offers when the weather cools down this fall. Either way, I look forward to the cold weather power bump with lower IATs and lower DAs.

So do you need to pin it into the ECU harness then like the GM stuff?

It wires directly into the canbus system. Here is the prototype instructions to build your own kit using a sandwitch plate. This same system will be available 15-20 F150s,15-23 Mustangs, 20-22 Explorers and the earlier bronco sport/mavericks.

Alternatively you can simply adjust the ethanol percent manually via the speedo and cruise control buttons without wiring the kit in.

Lund and other dealers will likely be producing their own plug n play kits in the future.

It didnt have enough time to learn the E completely before the trims matured from the fill up, so the trims are way off (+20 to +30% most likely). You need to reflash down that flex tune again or do a KAM reset to trigger it to learn the ethanol content again. Once the E has gotten all the way through the fuel system, the AFR will start to come down around 10.0 depending on how good the E you got was.

Otherwise its going to run like this until you refill gas again to trigger a relearn. And its a certain amount or more, I forget what it is. Like 10 gallons or something you need to refill before it will trigger the relearn naturally... Someone correct me on that.

So bottom line, just reflash down that flex tune again and then let the car idle for like 10-15 minutes after. It will learn down the AFR and it will run like a beast. You can see the AFR going down on the gauge in the DIC.

i did this all last night went to the gas station swapped to the flex fuel tune filled up reset kam and then let it idle for 20 min air fuel ratio on my car is now 10
but on my tuner it still says 14s under the afr bank 1 and 2

If the car is showing 10 for your AFR then you are good.

Your tuner is lazy and did not change the scale in the AFR PID. You are OK to drive.

Yeah it will fluctuate while its running. It shouldnt swing that much, but maybe 9.8-10.4ish... Thats just the fuel trims going plus and minus trying to keep it running at stoich( full E85 is 9.8). If you are running E80 or E78 you will see stoich closer to 10.0-10.3. Its ok to see it swing up and down. And when you are decelerating and full off the gas, it may peg full lean at 20. Thats fine in that scenario.

i noticed when downshfting one of my spark advance gauges would go to 12k then back down

i called and they said it’s normal for the check engine light it should go away after 50 miles the guy also said to switch to the 85
