Driving away without the keys

Anyone know what happens if you drive your car away without the keys? Cause, ya know, push starters. I would imagine it would keep running until you either ran outta gas or turned it off again. I don’t think it would just shut down while you were driving. Anyone test this out?

And no I didn’t drive away without my keys.

My wife's Lexus will run until you turn it off. It also beeps a lot saying the key can't be located or something like that. I'm guess the stang would behave similarly

the 2018 can't be shifted into gear without the key in the car.

The older cars could be, and would be drivable until shut off. You can program them with forscan so they won't shift either(did this with my wifes 2017 F350)

The dealer warned me about this when I picked up my 17 back in September knowing it was my first push button start Mustang. So in theory and second hand knowledge (based on dealer information) the car will continue to run until you shut it off or run out of gas. And yes according to them they have gotten that call from a customer more than once.

My wife's Jeep does the same thing. It's annoying as hell.

My 2016 GT will run and drive without the key in the car, but it will just keep beeping and annoy the $hit outta me until I produce a key.

The 2016 manual transmission will let you drive. When you turn it off, it will allow you to restart it again as long as you don't open the door.

When you have the car running and close the door and no key is detected, the horn beeps 2x. then as you drive, it shows a message on the screen that no key is detected. You can drive until you shut it off, or run out of gas. If you restart it within 30 seconds (I believe it is) without opening the door, it will restart. I did this just to test it out. My neighbor had a Lancer and drove away without her keys. they were hanging on the wall. It was close enough that it allowed THAT car to start. She was towed home with a no start situation. yep, it happens

Search of Amazon.com yielded a Faraday pouch for just over seven dollars. You can put your fob in it and it will eliminate communication between the fob and the car, if you want to test how your car reacts to keyless use,

There is a warning sound if you leave the cabin with the key while the engine is running, but the engine keeps running.

We get AAA calls for this all the time. Most recent one drove 6 hours before stopping and realizing the key was still at home. Don't think we've had one on a Mustang yet but I'll keep my eye out. Ours will honk if you walk away with the key unless another key is in the car also.

Right I warm my car up all the time and walk away. And get the double horn beep. Which annoys me. My 13 lancer gt made the least annoying sound. It was a quick little noise. Not the horn. My focus st and stang do the double horn. Although the stang is a less annoying quick horn beep. The ST was obnoxious. Thanks for all the info
