The price is high because that is how much the insurance companies will pay for the wheels if they are damaged. Hmmmmmm..I wonder how much this effects the insurance rate for the R

OVER 30K for 4 wheels? I'm sorry, I don't see it. Yes, they are carbon fiber and all, but that cannot be the "ACTUAL" cost of those wheels.

I think you're joking but I'm going to address this for anyone actually thinking of doing this. You could sell your wheels, but that's assuming:

1. Someone will actually want these wheels for $30k. Or $20k. Or $10k. $10k will get you a really nice set of custom HRE's, which is more than enough for 99% of people.
2. The person who wants them won't go to another manufacturer of carbon wheels and get them much cheaper. *cough* carbonrev *cough*
3. The wheels will fit another car. Diameter, width, offset, etc. Really only makes it logical for other Mustang owners.
4. Whoever buys them can recalibrate their suspension geometry to work with the massively decreased unsprung weight.

Ford's already thought of all of this guys. Don't try to sell your wheels.

Carbon Rev is the manufacturer of these wheels. I'd doubt, very highly, they'll sell the R wheels outside of Ford, and undercut the company that's bringing them the highest volume they've seen to date.

Other than that, I'd also wager other R owners are going to want spares.

And those are the exact guys that will snap them up.

But you know, your mileage may vary and whatnot.

Once Carriers wake up and discover this fact your gonna find either very high insurance rates or some carriers declining to insure the car (or wanting a wheel exclusion). No carrier is gonna be happy with an instant $7k claim because little johnny curbed a rim....

Best bet will probably be the specialty carriers where you set miles, insured value with some type of limited on wheel claims....

But hit a pot hole and bust a rim and oh yeah-it is gonna be fun. Your probably also beginning to understand why Ford is building (if rumor true) only a handful of cars (500 or less) per year.

Yeah- change out wheels but you have then added unsprung weight that throws off suspension calibrations (and really defeats what the R is about)...curb a wheel and face a huge bill etc...these factors will limit the market once the hyper activity settles down and folks realize just what they bought and the deep pockets needed to maintain this car properly.

And tire shops--that is gonna become an issue...the R uses very soft tires...your looking at 5-7.5k street miles for $2k+ set... once tire installers get soaked for a few rim replacements the industry will wake up and fees for installing rubber on carbon fiber wheels ain't gonna be pretty.
