Dirty cai cone

So i have my car with my roush cold air intake closed box for a while now and finally decided to look under the hood and found a lot of debris.

My question is what are my best options?

new filter cone? Whole new intake ( I’ve herd good about JLT & fenderwell) , or is cleaning it an option to save money ?

the oil still seems to be intact but this car is used and came with the filter so obviously im not sure how many miles total the intake has so my best 2 options are new filter cone or whole new intake

Is this post a joke? You do realize filters get dirty over time and you need to either replace them or if they are washable filters, you wash them. Google if you have a washable filter.

And why in the world would you replace an entire intake because the filter got dirty?

You're also the guy that wanted me to cut my mufflers off of my stock system and sell you just the mufflers but then stopped replying to my messages right?

Good thing I never cut up my full exhaust, something told me you were a window shopper.

Performance is suffering if it’s extremely dirty. Your engine will breathe a sigh of relief once you clean it.

Spray each pleat with the cleaner, let it soak in and dissolve the oil for about 15 min., rinse filter from the inside out, shake excess water off and let it air dry. Once dry, spray each pleat with the filter oil (don’t go heavy), let that soak in for about 10 min. Go back and touch up any light spots and you’re done.

Just to add, if you’re in a very dusty/dirty area try the brand "Outerwears" micron prefilter on your main filter. I do have an aftermarket conical filter, I have the OW pre filter and it works great on a conical.

The purpose of a prefilter is to block the smallest particulate matter from the main filter. An uncovered filter will clog much faster, whether it's a stock paper filter OR a "performance" mesh filter. The prefilter will and does prevent the main filter from becoming saturated with debris AND at the same time it is deflecting particulate from itself due to its material and design.

All I do with mine is just use a shop vac to remove any debris from the bottom of the box and off the surface of the OW micron. Quarterly maintenance I'll remove the OW micron and rinse (it dries practically instantly). I've run it in full pollen season too and never had an issue with it clogging OR the underlying conical filter becoming dirty from pass through.

Here's my original Micron thread showing my Outerwears micron on my prior 2016 S550 after 5,000 miles of use. It's no BS, it works as designed and works very well. I'm using the same micron on my 2018.

As one can see in the linked images in that thread, the debris is sitting on top of the Outerwears and isn't "clogging” the conical at all. If I tapped the Outerwears, that debris would fall right to the bottom of the air box. The same happens when there is airflow occurring, debris will deflect off the Outerwears and into the bottom of the air box. If the Outerwears was not in place, that same debris would have been packed into the pleats of the main filter.

and despite online myths about prefilters, no it does not block or reduce incoming air flow, nor does it have any effect on HP…
