A wheel has some galling where the lug nut mounts to the wheel. Is there a tool or technique for cleaning lug nut cone areas?

It’s inevitable. That’s how your wheel is secured to the hub.

The galling between the lug and wheel also scores the wheel seat since the wheel is aluminum. I've been wanting to "recondition" my lug nuts, too. Haven't searched eBay or Amazon for a tool, but I did consider using an old fashioned drill bit sharpener that I have on hand. Combined with bench grinder of course. I'd have to buy a M14x1.50 bolt and jamb nut too.

I think a 60° countersink will work to clean up burrs on a lug nut seat. The factory lug nuts that come on the S550 are the cheap two piece type. Is reconditioning the two piece type better than a new four wheel set for $35 of the single piece version?

Just buy a quality 1 piece lug nut set from Gorilla or similar manufacturer. Apply a light coating of dry lubricant to the coned surface of the lug to prevent galling.

Plus one on the good lug nuts.
Doesn't putting any kind of lube on the face alter the torque?
Of course wheel lug torque is a WHOLE other conversion...

It does, a bit, but 150#ft, sheesh! Galling will give a false reading as well, if the surfaces are already roughed up.

A light touch on a good polishing wheel on a bench grinder would clean up the cone on the lug nuts. But a good polishing wheel would cost more than a new set of lug nuts so.......
