I am a noob when it comes to radar detectors but with a fully loaded 5.0 on the road I am now trying to understand a couple of things.

I went to a radar shop and they gave me a quote of $2,700 for a laser detection system (escort 9500CI) and the installation. It is certainly efficient but I don't have this kind of budget for radar detection.

After doing some research, I am planning to purchase either a UNIDEN LRD950 ($220) or a Radenso Pro ($399) and I would pair the radar detector with Waze.

While it won't be the top of the line, I should be able to get a fair level of protection... I think.

One thing that bothers me though. I really don't want to have wires all across my center console. I looked at mirror mounts and direct wire infos but I would need a step by step video tutorial. At this point, I am very confused.

Any thoughts?

wire power to fuse #36 in the passenger footwell fusebox. There are nearby bolts that can be used for the chassis ground. I ran a escort direct wire kit with the silence button near the cigarette port and the radar detector is center mounted above dash with wires hidden

I also went with Mirror Tap and it looks much better. You can just get the mirror tap (link in previous post) and hook it up behind the mirror.

I actually had a lot of issues with mine but it's extremely simple. I only had issues because I broke one of the prongs off in the damn connector behind the mirror. I ordered 2 more and couldn't get those in. Brought it to the shop that I usually go to and they had to take it apart to get the broken prong out.

Very embarrassing for me, but should be very simple. Wouldn't mind posting pics of where they're connected in the back of mine too if you're interested. Leaving out tomorrow for two weeks though so I'll post in the morning if you want.

What size is that fuse? I had an old fuse tap that I tried to fit but it's a little too big and I thought it was as small as they came.

I used the wiring in the dome lights and just sliced in...works perfect and didn't have to buy a mirror tap. Plus the dome holds all the wires nice and neat.

Yah but laser is a lot more rare than radar at least in IL and WI. Valentine saves my butt from radar and that's where the $$ is justified
