since apparently they assigned a deaf person to be the tech on my case. (No, seriously, I did a ride-along with him to point out all the noises and he mentioned that he had severe hearing damage from years in the military and then from riding motorcycles without wearing a helmet.)
sorry for the rattles but that is seriously one of the funniest damn things ive ever read lol

I use it as a DD. I deal with traffic and have a manual. Its a 75+ miles commute round trip. I love this car.

The GT is a very comfortable car, gets decent mpg so the 16 gallon tank is not much of an issue, for the amount of driving you do its a good choice.

I would recommend a 401A without the performance package.

Mustang Ecoboost or Focus RS (for extra passenger room). Both would be fun to drive. When you stopped getting reimbursed for gas these cars are good on mileage, and it's fun to upgrade as a hobby.
Focus RS is a bunch more than a Mustang GT. The Focus RS I priced was $44,075 and the dealer wanted another $1,975 over that. No A plan, no rebates etc. My Mustang list for $43,275, less rebates and A plan price. When it was all done, the gap was $8K with tax and no rebates/programs.

I DD my GT/PP and love it! My commute is about 80 miles round trip, and I live in NW Indiana. I am currently driving a Subaru on the bad days but plan to drive the Stang year round after this winter with winter wheel/tire set up

Good morning,

This is my first post on these forums. I just want to go ahead and apologize now if there is a thread on this subject that I missed while searching because I am sure there is. Little backstory: My 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid was deemed a lemon and I am currently in the process of having Hyundai buyback the vehicle from me. During this process, I began to think about what car I wanted to get to replace this hybrid. Here was my thought process...I'm an auditor...not the most exciting career out there but it pays the bills. I didn't want to get into a mundane car, head to a mundane job for hours, then back into that mundane car to head home. There's no fun in that equation. So, for my price range, the Mustang immediately came to the forefront. The problem is, being an auditor, I travel to the clients; whoever they may be for that week. My commutes vary from close (24 miles a day) to unreal (174 miles a day). To put this into prospective, I had my Sonata Hybrid for two months before the engine issue occurred, by that time I had driven 6000 miles.

So my question is, do any of you use this Mustang as your DD or is it your one and only car? And if it is, do you commute as much as me? Or should I just pursue a different car? Keep in mind, MPG doesn't really matter to me because I am reimbursed for mileage at a federal rate.
I do a lot of consulting work that puts me in my car anywhere from 20-300 miles in a day several days per week. As of right now, the mustang is my only vehicle, and I am perfectly fine with it. It's comfortable, it's quite nice, and even with the 5.0, I get 29mpg at 70mph. I just drove from houston to Morgan City, LA, a hair over 4 hours with speed limit ranging from 55-75, and averaged 29.1mpg according to the computer. Historically, it has been approximately 0.8 off, so 28.3, which is fantastic for what the car is in my opinion.

I DD mine 60 miles a day..the only problem? The miles are racking up too fast for my liking. Going to buy a beater for my commutes, but I can still see myself cheating and driving the mustang. It's that nice.

The Mustang - regardless of engine/trans/rear/interior options is far from "mundane", so you'll be making an excellent choice no matter which one you chose from the available options.

:)

It's a fun car to drive anywhere - it also has plenty of room up front and for the sporadic back seat passengers (if applicable). It also has ample trunk room with fold down rear seats for cargo pass through (again if applicable).

If MPG does not matter - then you just need to decide:
V8, V6 or 4T (EB)
Trans type (auto or manual)
Ext color
Ext options based on those available to chosen model
Int color
Int type (cloth, leather, premier or Recaro)
Int options

Sounds easy enough - but once you start looking and reading online - you're going to find LOTS of choices that will make decision making tough. Good luck!

BTW - DD here too - 100mi per day

Man, I really appreciate the responses I got on here.

You know, the Focus RS was high up there next to a WRX Limited. If it was actually out, it would have gotten a very good looking at but unfortunately it's not out yet. All I've seen on the internet is "Spring 2016" which I'm assuming would mean April. The moment Hyundai buyback this car, I have to be ready to roll with another car. So either I have to purchase another car right before they take the keys or the same day. This is busy season for us auditors so not having a car for even a day is completely out of the question.

I used mine as a daily commuter for 4 1/2 months before it was totaled-for me, it was a drop in replacement for my last car (1999 Pontiac Sunfire GT), right down to the gas mileage  A hell of a lot more fun, too: FWD vs RWD, 160 HP vs 310 :D

Got the same mileage on both (around 28 MPG, with more highway than city driving). My daily commute is about 56 miles round trip...only difference was I had to start filling up with premium (the Ecoboost is a dog on 87 octane) ;) Much larger, much more enjoyable vehicle, too...

My overall analysis is that the Mustang is great to live with as a daily driver. Be prepared for getting attention wherever you go, though, like the grocery store or gas station...everyone wants to talk to you about your car

The Focus ST should also be on your radar, almost every bit as fun (you just can't tail slide it, because it's FWD only). A couple of grand cheaper than an Ecoboost 'stang with the performance package, too...;) A little more HP than the ecoboost in a little smaller car, makes for some fun driving

I used my GT as a daily driver for a 70-75 mile round trip commute. I love it! As for the mileage, if I drive like a granny, it's possible to eke out 27-28mpg on the highway with the V8 and 6sp manual. You'd probably be able to do a little bit better with the turbo 4 and would save yourself a few thousand bucks up front as well. But since you're being reimbursed.... :)

Best,

I use my Ecoboost as daily driver for 9 months out of the year, I don't want the salt for the winter. There are some new coatings though that are supposed to be better than wax. Go with the premium package for Sirius etc that will make driving a lot more comfortable. The two Focus would be good too ST and RS.
Better driving in the winter.

No doubt the mustang can be a great DD but remember the wear items and maintenance will cost more along with gas. Also need to factor in depreciation as well. Some people (including me back in the day) could make a little extra $ from mileage reimbursement buy running a cheap reliable car for work purposes.

My Mustang GT is my one and only car. I used to have a Silverado, but my wife drives an SUV so I didn't really need the truck. The Stang is my daily driver even though it has onnoxiously loud exhaust on it. I buy vehicles to drive them, not sit in a garage.
