Motor swaps are so cool. I put a 2003 Mach 1 crate motor in my 1997 GT. I want to put a 2.7L or 3.5L Ecoboost V6 in this one. "Want" as in I think it'd be cool, not as in I'll ever do it. (Or will I?)

So we know a 5.0 can be swapped in! Question now is can a modified/built 4.6 3v be dropped in and run off of a 5.0 pcm. :ninja:

I hopefully will be able to answer that question in time!

Why'd ya want to do that? Less displacement and fewer valves per cylinder...isn't more always better?

Not when more means almost 10x the price! I can get a 4.6 in pretty decent shape for $800. I can then build up that engine with ported heads, forged internals, etc all for far less then I can get a decent stock 5.0.

Very impressive project, I wish I had the skills to do this type of project. Just purchased a 2016 Ecoboost PP Mustang. Don't think I will be doing this swap any time soon. Congrats!!

Multiple reasons
1. I have a problem with people who tell me i cant !
5. Just for the fun of it !

There is no way in hell you can install headers on my S550 for free! :D

Great job on that undertaking, you sir are the envy of many!

What's the difference so far that you are experiencing with:

Dash harness
Engine cradle

?

I would have through the entire dash harness would be the same with the exception of the PCM's, BCM's and maybe other modules - but the actual wiring or wires/connectors to be the same?

Also, any pics of engine cradle variances? I would have thought the only differences would have been engine mounts? Or is it different where the exhaust would pass down?

I also am familiar with the Fox platform, being the former owner of many of them, also performing complete gut and swaps on them over to 5.0's. I know those platforms in and out and there were not major differences between those platforms where swapping to a 5.0 was rather easy. Engine harness would be swapped, but entire dash harnesses from 87-93 was all the same. The only Fox 5.0 harness that was totally unique was the 1986 5.0 harness since it was a one year only harness (engine, light and body), due to 85 being carbed and 87 being a total redesign.

So I'm really interested in the S550 EB platform swap to a S550 5.0 upgrade.

Not to be a jerk and not that this is relevant to this thread....but some of this info is wrong. Dash harnesses ,engine harnesses, and many other components were different year to year on foxes. 86, 87-88, 89, 90, 91, 92, 93 all had differences. For instance an 89 was the first mass air car, also 89 had the fuel pump relay under the seat, 90 had it in the engine compartment (or the other way around, I forget). There were airbags on the 90 and newer so the dash harness was different. If you're talking 4cyl to v-8, we'll even more differences. That being said I've swapped many 4cyl to v-8 foxes over the years as well as push rod motors to mod motors and even some mod motors to pushrod motors....it's all doable and like the op here said. It's for the fun and love of the sport!

Op, congrats on a bad ass build! The best feeling comes when you fire it up for the first time! I never get tiered of that. I'm doing a build right now that everyone is asking why I didn't just buy a new truck. Turning an 07 F-250 Outlaw Crew Cab short bed single rear wheel into a 2010 F-350 Outlaw Crew Cab long bed dually..... Why? Because I had it and I wanted to!

Great thread, thanks for posting..

That $100 a month saving on insurance is cool. In the UK it would cost more to insure as it's modified!!

Please explain this.. so in the US, your car is still insured as a 2.3EB, even if you put a 5.8 Shelby in it??

Insurance companies here go off of the vin of the vehicle to calculate cost. So as long as the vin is of a 2.3l then they will charge as such. That said, if the car is totaled, your V8 swap is not covered in the value of the vehicle and you could loose a good deal of money. You can inform your insurance company of the mods and they will adjust the cost accordingly if you so desired to have the car fully covered.

Hey Eco,

Are you in the NW Indiana or Chicago groups? If NWI ever gets together for a drive this summer, it would be cool to see this!

I'm not in any group, I'm down for a meet or drive for sure . I'm in the middle of building my big single turbo setup right now.
I'm right on the boarder of Indiana and Illinois so I'm close to nwi and Chicago :eyebulge:

Did you have to change the fuel pump?

Interesting, so the EB fuel pump is same as the GT, regarding stock fuel pressure and flow rate (LPH)?

The low pressure pump ( in tank ) on the eco has a different part number than the gt. The gt tank is a 16 gal and the eco is a 15.5 gal tank. the fuel line along the frame is the same as well as the fpdm is the same. Eco running fuel pressure is 50.8-75.4 psi and the gt is 53.1-63.1 psi. ive never found anything about lph but it runs fine . Im about to go turbo as soon as I finish assembly so will see how it does there as well.
