Thinking about picking up a battery impact driver and wanted to know if anyone can recommend best bang for the buck that can remove lugs torqued to 150 ft-lbs? I have an Avid Power driver that can remove them but not sure if will last. Works excellent for 100 ft-lb! Thanks!
First - you need to be looking for impact wrench, not driver. Impact drivers have socket for small bits and are generally used to put screws in...

As for the wrench - if you're not in any current Power Tool system (if you are - buy that one - batteries are by far most expensive part of any systems), Milwaukee stubby M12 is an awesome impact that is small, light and will take 150 ft-lb lugs off. If you ever plan on doing any other mechanical work where torques might be higher, get something larger - Milwaukee, DeWalt, Ryobi are all ok. Milwaukee has probably the broadest amount of tools available.

Definitely leaning towards one of them for sure. The Milwaukee is definitely one I was thinking about. I will be researching the 3 you mentioned. Thanks!

Milwaukee makes number of impact wrenches - different drives, detent pin/friction ring, different sizes/torques - stubby is the smaller and "weakest" but still handles the lugs. I also have the largest one, which easily takes off axle nuts. If you're not planning on taking it with you to travel (stubby goes with me to the events), would get something mid-way size / torque , 1/2 inch drive, friction ring.

Hmm my riyobi rated for 350 couldn't peel the skin off a pudding, let alone a wheel nut. The 900+lbft rated one the tow truck guy had was a milwaukee unit that busted some nuts that were on so tight all 280 lbs of me jumping on a 2.5ft breaker bar couldn't even budge loose. If you're going to do wheel nuts or chassis bolts go big or don't bother.

Love my Makita 18v impact. They have a wide range of tools on the 18v platform.
As for the lug nuts… use a breaker bar to break loose and a torque wrench to get to 150 ft/lbs. your lug nuts will thank you.

I have a milwaukee 1/2 drive M18 impact rated at 700 ft lb break away torque. I only use it to break loose the lugs, then I have a smaller 3/8 drive milwaukee M18 rated at 210 ft lbs to run them off and back on.

The 1/2 is 2763-20, the 3/8 is 2754-20

If this is for professional or daily use give Hilti a look. Their 1/2" cordless impact tool is a monster in all aspects, size, weight, torque and $$$. Also their Li-ion batteries seem to last forever.

One last question, being a reputable brand such as Milwaukee, DeWalt, etc. is it worth saving money to buy certified refurbished? Thanks!

I wouldn't - wait for Milwaukee "Special Buy" at Home Depot - they have those on regular basis, especially on more popular power tools (more specialized ones like cordless ratchet rarely end up there) - you can either get a several tools in a set or a tool with several batteries at quite bit of discount compared to regular price.

Current one : https://www.homedepot.com/b/Milwaukee/N-5yc1vZzv

DeWalt also comes on their special buy but I never paid attention since I have several drawers of Milwaukee tools - likely similar story.
