Cordless Impact driver

Thinking about picking up a battery impact driver and wanted to know if anyone can recommend best bang for the buck that can remove lugs torqued to 150 ft-lbs? I have an Avid Power driver that can remove them but not sure if will last. Works excellent for 100 ft-lb! Thanks!

I use a dewalt 1/2 inch. Works great.

do you have any battery operated tools now? Might be cheaper to spend more on tool but avoid buying new batteries.

I looked at a cheaper version but it looks like I will need to spend the money to handle the higher torque.

That is what I have been using as well. Fighting some carpel tunnel so I was trying to find some relief...lol.

DeWalt 1/2” here but Milwaukee is also great. Pick by looking at which tool line is more complete for your uses. I prefer to break lugs with a breaker bar on really nice wheels but I use a lug nut “wheel protector” socket like the ones pictured here.

Don't let any shop use an impact wrench to tighten any bolt or lug nut. Torque wrench or DIY! Only sane use for an impact wrench is to remove nuts/bolts.

I bought and use the DeWalt 1/2", because I had other tools that used the same batteries. It works pretty good too.

One of the things that impresses me about America's/Discount Tires is they have used torque wrenches to tighten my lug nuts all but one time. Unfortunately that one time was when I was visiting Bremerton WA, from L.A. CA. Luckily there was only one broken stud when I got home. I watch them pretty closely, then loosen, re-tighten and torque them when I get home. I do that anytime someone else has a wheel off one of my babies.

I used a 20v Dewalt impact, but migrated to breaking them loose with a breaker bar and removing / installing with a smaller stubby Milwaukee unit that I use more often as its smaller/lighter. I always use a torque wrench now to finish tightening.

I have a Ryobi brushless 3/8” that works great. It’s super small and light weight, and not so strong it’ll break something on accident. Still 160 ft/lbs. Then an Earthquake XT Harbor Freight 1/2” for Jeep suspension bits.

I have the ryobi 1/2" impact and it takes off lug nuts with ease. This is the 18v impact and they are very inexpensive at home depot. In fact, I have many 18v Ryobi tools and multiple batteries and have had a great experience with all, without fail. I know they have 40v systems too...but I am very happy with the power of the 18v system.
