Perhaps we should all bill Ford our consulting rates for the time it takes to take the cars in for no reason at all.

Clicked this thread mainly out of curiosity.

I'm in Texas and pretty much use the seat cooler everyday. I had no idea it's suppose to work on the lower back.

Another thing to add to the list before I drop it off. What's the best is having to pay for a rental car!

Again today at a different dealer the tech looked it up and it says Only the seat bottom will cool not the seat backs ...smh
Looked it up where I'm wondering? So sad when the Techs don't have correct information or don't know how it's really supposed to operate.

The uppers blow air out of the seats about where your shoulder blades would be. Put your face down there and you can feel the air come out. Now imagine if that air was cool like the air coming out of the bottom cushion. That's what we are all wanting with a fix.

Yea my seat backs do not cool at all. On top of that the seat cushion doesn't work well either...

I've been pretty bummed out with the premium options... Which I will never get again

Hey, I guess you can add another mustang to the list of cooling seats not working as advertised. It's kind of a bummer since i live in south florida and its the perfect time to have these cooled seats. unfortunate a car that seems so solid and great has to have hiccups like this. Hopefuly Ford will do good by us!

It feels like at times the lower portion of the back of the seat is cooling but I cant' tell if that's just the air from the seat cushion blowing upwards to my back since I don't sit all the way to the back of the seat. Either way, the back of the seat never gets hot when the cooled seat option is on.

I have a loaner car (another EB Premium) that seems to work the same way so this either means both function as "normal" or they're both messed up.
If this continues and gets "fixed" in the later models Ford is going to have some really upset customers. They can't ignore it and just think we won't notice the 2016's or 2017's have back cooling function and us 15's got shafted. And if they come out and actually say the 15's work as they should and only the new ones are to have back cooling function, well damn... I see some legal action coming from some people.

No, it's not normal, they're both messed up.
I have attached a picture from a Mustang .pdf booklet here in Europe. The picture says it all.

To translate, it says:
Front seats, heated and ventilated
The front leather seats are heated and ventilated, they are electrically adjustable in 6 positions. The driver's seat has a lumbar support and position memory is available.

*When they say "ventilated", it means cooling because the option on the same booklet is called "Front seats - cooling"
cooling seats.webp

It may be a misimpression, but I thought "cooled" was limited to seats with thermoelectric cooling units.

The term "ventilated" thus applies to seats that have a fan but no cooling unit. They can blow a diversion from an underseat duct that otherwise sends AC air to the rear passengers

A quick comparison, roughly indicates that the cooled seats on max knock 12-15 deg F off my seat bottoms, only a couple off the lumbar, and about 10 off the upper back. I compared a 1-hour drive with the cooling on to a 10 minute drive with them off, taking IR measurements as soon as I got out of the car.

It would be interesting to compare to the cooled or ventillated seats many Lexus and Kia cars have. My recollection is that they both produce a noticeably cooler seat. I had a 2007 Lexus IS with cooled seats.

Has anyone attempted a comparison?

Our seats do have the peltier units in both the seat bottoms and backs along with fan. Cooling felt in the lumbar area is coming up from the bottom. The seat backs cooling duct comes out mid to upper back area. There are diagrams and a lot of great technical information earlier in this thread.

For anyone "adding your name to the list", this isn't a formal list. You should call Ford Customer Service and register the complaint. They will have you take it to your dealer to have the problem verified. Then you'll be added to the list.

Have you guys been able to address this with Ford Dealers and get them checked out?
