I ended up just doing the reishe 170 thermostat and temps are kept under control and the fans act like stock again.

I have a JLT CAI and the IAT temps are essentially the same as with the stock intake.

IMHO, you owners waste a lot of money on CAI's. My stock filter GT IAT temp is rarely 10F over ambient air.

With supporting mods (full exhaust, cams, etc.), I have no doubt they will produce improvements over the stock unit. I cant say it was a waste of money, it looks nice, it's reusable, and some people like the sound (I couldnt really care less).

I've been thinking about getting the jlt and lund tune and started reading these posts. Then I started watching my iat's with my stock air box. My IAT's are about the same as people are reporting with the jlt. I had 80 degree ambient temps and sitting at a stop light in traffic, my iat went to around 110 to 120. Cruising at speed it would drop down to 5 to 10 above ambient but at all stop lights, it would increase quite a bit.

I wonder how much hood color has to do with it. Mine is black and in the sun it's too hot to open without gloves. In the 95 degree summer days, my fans come on full blast as soon as I crank the car and my car is bone stock.

Hood color more than likely influences engine compartment temps.. Mine is white, maybe why my IAT is not much above external ambient.

My car is black too . I started looking at my IAT's while with the stock box since I was waiting for my JLT due to an out of stock blue filter and I didn't notice much difference . I can tell you I think it cools down quicker now when I get going . I saw pretty much the same when I sat at a light . I mostly drive highways . I do notice the fans now .

another question...why are people more worried about their IAT when stopped? of course it will get higher. shouldn't you be more worried about your IAT when driving the car hard?

Because we are usually stopped when the light goes from red to green (when the race starts) and the race is usually over before you have time for the IAT's to cool down (approximately +/-12 seconds).

I'm not a drag racer or anything. I just worry about hurting the engine.
