Yeah it's not the most pleasing to look at, especially when it's done sloppy. It takes patience and a steady hand to make it look seamless and with no bumps. That's why I limited the amount of tape on places you can see. Down below on the bottom of the airbox noone will ever see even if I'm showing off the engine bay to onlookers. Initially I was only going to do it at the very bottom where it's closest to the corner of the head, but I had extra and decided I didn't care too much about aesthetics and did almost the entire box.

If looks are important to you, you may want to go with the GT500 lid I linked previously. It's OEM clean and simple, and I'm sure you can find it for cheaper used than from a dealer.
I am actually considering going back to a closed airbox and coating it with something o reduce heat. But I want to exhaust all options on the open box that I have.

OK, so the seal is attached to a plastic piece that attaches to the top of the 350 airbox?
The Bullitt air box seal is a completely separate upper box plastic piece with seal attached to it. Stock GT350 air box seal on the left.
I bought it from forum member NGOT8R. Search the Marketplace. I have seen them for sale.

OK! This seems to be a move in the right direction. Getting a good seal is the obvious first step which is what I was attempting to do with my pipe insulation seal mod. And, as EFI, correctly stated it does not have much eye appeal. Thanks!

If you go this route, you will need that air filter "rain jacket" as the stock GT hood vent will dump water into the intake housing. The Bullitt and the Mach1 have a hood liner that redirects the water out to a slot in front of the rubber seal.
