So my 2019 GT 6MT Premium PP1 died on saturday.
I washed the car, started the engine, drove 3 ft up the inclined driveway, then parked it.
an hour later, I went to go out with my wife, and I get in the car to notice nothing when I go to start the car.

Symptoms:
car has good battery (I replaced it over the summer).
The bluetooth battery monitor reported 69%, so I decided to put a trickle charger on it anyway,
Next day, I try to start the car, still nothing. I hear the solenoid click, but then hear a high pitched squeal (that my wife can't hear, but I am sure the neighborhood dogs can). It sounded like a seized motor.

I swapped the starter relay out with the relay for (I think) wipers. I swapped the 30A fuse with (I think) passenger seat fuse. Still nothing.
I disconnected battery for 3 hours, and then re-connected. My seats memory is still intact, so I don't think it did anything.

Monday, I take my son's car to work, and then I look for a starter. No autozone has 'em in stock, ford dealer in neighborhood says $400!!! and is out of stock anyway.
Decide to use my extended service. I start a tow, and then head home.

Here is the real part of this post...
Every male that I ran into, when I told them that I think my starter is dead, says to me, "you're car is a manual? then why don't you just roll it, pop it into gear and then start it?"

Here is where I call every one of their BS. I ask them, "have you ever bump started a manual? I haven't... Do you know the steps?"

They ALL SHUT UP. Apparently they have, "heard this" (what? in movies???). A coworker who has a masters in engineering says to me, "everyone claims to KNOW the fundamentals, but none of them actually know the procedure". I googled and found someone ask on a WRX forum (reg bump starting a manual with a keyless button for start). No one actually had an answer when asked what to do with the button. Someone said, put it in acc, and then when you bump start, hit it once, someone else said, roll car, pop in gear and then hit the button twice...

I go home and use the ford app to call for tow. This was 2 pm. At 5:46pm, the guy FINALLY arrives. The first thing he says is (after going bananas over how nice my car is), "yo, it's manual, why don't you just roll it down your driveway, and then pop it into gear and start it?"

I tell him, " I would but, 1. it is a keyless start, so I am not sure if I roll the car backwards, pop into reverse, and then when I hit the button, will the ECM say to me, "F-you" and not send power to the plugs? and at which point, now I have rolled out into the main road with all this traffic?"

He did say that he has never actually tried it, even with a key, and that he wasn't sure either. He did say that he will block all traffic with his truck, and I can roll my car back, onto the street and then he can put it up on his truck, but he did say that since my PP1 front lip is so low, he is worried.

Since all traffic was blocked, I thought, "what the hell", and I decided to try bump start.
Here is what I did.
1. pressed start w/o clutch to turn car to Acc.
2. parking brake up, clutch all the way down.
3. gear in reverse (car is facing backwards down hill).
4. release parking brake, roll car (actually kind fast)
5. drop clutch, and immediately hit the start button.

I screwed up here as the engine did come to life, but immediately coughed and stalled because the car was in reverse gear. I had about 10 ft of hill left, re-started from steps 1-5 and then:

6. as soon as I hit start and engine coughed, I press down on the clutch again to disengage engine from tranny.

I just want to say that this works. The engine did turn on. THe tow truck guy actually was more relieved than me, he said that he loves my car and did not want to throw it up his flatbed. I gave him a $20 and decided to drive the car 35min to the ford dealer.

Once in their lot, I parked, and then turned engine off, and tried to start again, and it was dead.

So the looong story I wrote here is just to report that the S550 (and I assume S650) manuals CAN BE bump started.

Theres no reason any manual cant be bump started if it has even a little battery left in it to run spark and fuel pump,

I would just say a lot of usa people know about bump starting but majority dont have a manual and havent in years, and even less have bump started

Its the 1% of the 1% of people who know haha so good to hear you figured it out

I've bumped started many things. Dirt bikes, street bikes, cars. My brother has an old iroc z that died in the middle of the road one time and we bump started it. I would assume with the new push button cars it would be the same process. Good to know it is.

I've push started cars since before I had a driver's license. Well, I pushed for my dad anyway...
I've had to do it at one time or another with nearly every stick car I've ever owned. It never crossed my mind that a manual Mustang wouldn't be able to. I guess since very few cars are manual anymore it's becoming something of a lost art, like cursive...

Sad world we live in. Make sure the power is on, get it rolling 3 or 4 miles an hour should be enough, with the clutch pushed in and the car in second gear, then let the clutch out foot on the gas. It should start if you have enough air, fuel and spark.

I don't see why you need to push on the start button while rolling. You should push it to get into accessory mode (all dash lights on). Then push it, put it into second and pop the clutch. As soon as it starts push the clutch back in. No need to push on the gas at all.

Sounds like you only need to get it to the ACC mode where the message on the dash says "push clutch to start" and then bump it. No need to push the button a 2nd time. That would only shut the motor off which is probably why it sputtered and died.

BTW, did you check your battery connections to make sure they are tight and not corroded? Stupid question I know, but sometimes it's the simple things that cause the biggest problems.

I push start my mustang everytime the battery dies. No issues. I wouldn't ever do it in reverse though. Roll it and pop it in 2nd.

Not sure if I did not do it correctly, but first time I had it on acc, so it did say, "push clutch to start", and then rolled it. When I released clutch, the car just slowed and stopped. Maybe I didn't get it rolling fast enough.

But pushing start button did work (twice).

Had no choice. My driveway slopes out to the main road, and car was dead kn top, so no way except in reverse.

Reverse is not recommended but its fine. I did it back in the day many times when I had a bad ignition switch.

I would have rolled it out and pushed it forward to start it but if it worked no big deal I guess?

I've done it MANY times in my life, but never on a push button start car. Forward and reverse. Works either way :). My 68 VW beetle I did it every day for 6 months when I was a poor college student and could barely afford gas much less a battery LOL... When its really fun is when you put in neutral, get out and push and run with the car till it gets moving fast enough, then jump in, clutch, in gear and pop. Good times...

Why pop the clutch in second gear, wouldn't first gear provide more engine revolutions for an easier start?
