Budget rain/street tire

My 555G2 street tires need replacing and I’m looking for modern recommendations. Front 285/35/19 and rear 305/30/19 (or 305/35/19).

These tires will be driven <1,000 miles per year. Just Sunday drives around town plus driving to the track. They will also be my backup/rain tires at HPDE days, so decent rain performance is important. I have a separate, dedicated set of wheels/tires that I transport to the track for primary HPDE duty.

I hope to keep the price low since these tires will likely have an easy life. I drive like a grandma on the street.

I haven’t got a bad word to say about my kumho Ecsta sport s tyres. For the price I think they are hard to beat in every driving scenario. Up there with all the big names. To me they feel very confident in the wet and I’m yet to get to 50% tread , and that’s where I feel 4’s I had go from good to useless (wet) I find there grip level fades surprising quick. I’ve done 8000kms on these I’m pretty hard on tyres and they show little signs of wear and feel as good as the day I put them on. Im pretty confident I’ll be buying these tyres for a long time in to the future. But time will tell once I get down to 50% and see how they stack up and give me a good comparison. I paid each 275/35/19 $420 aud fitted. $302 usd.

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss or the Conti Sport Contact 02s are phenomenal.

But I don't know if they meet your definition of "budget", or if they come in the correct sizes.

Continental now makes the ECS02 in 305/35/19. I’m on my second set and absolutely love them. They do well in wet conditions and are less expensive than their Michelin counterparts (PS4S). Are they a “budget” tire? No, depending on your definition of budget. There are less expensive options. But, they would be a good, safe tire if you plan to use them on wet track days. Great on the street for regular driving too. Don’t go cheap on tires, they are probably the most important part of the car, IMO.

Another vote for the ECS02 or the G-Max RS. I have used both and they do well in rain.

The 555G2 is pure dog crap everywhere, and worse in the rain.

The Michelin PS A/S would be a MUCH better tire for the OP seeing that he wants a tire to do well in the rain. With rain usually comes with cooler temps, and again the A/S fits the bill.

Yes, only thing is getting those in a size for the wheels he’s running. Max 285 width available with all seasons on a 19. Would work on front but what width are the wheels in the rear OP? You said you were running a 305
