Does adding forced induction take away from what the M1 was designed for, ie road course track work? Does the added power undermine the ability of the car to do what it’s intended? I would love to add a whipple to mine but if blowing away the tires in 3 gears is the result, well then that’s not much fun. If I lose handling capability in order to add 200hp I’m not sure the M1 was the prudent starting platform.
On the other hand the gt500 is blown with 760hp and is a track monster so it can be done, right?

My thoughts exactly! It should be "gt500" like with a manual.

I feel like if its your daily driver like mine a PD blower (Whipple) makes sense. If you want to track it then maybe turbo/centrifugal? I will let the more experience folks chime in.

BUT since the GT500 does it with a PD blower then maybe its fine that way too.

If I was going to SC the Mach 1, I think it would have to be the ESS Centrifugal unit.

An ESS with the smaller intercooler is able to be installed without cutting into the plastic M1 undertray and apart from the small modification to the left side valve cover, the install would be completely (easily) reversible if you wanted to go back to NA.
Buying a second valve cover as a spare would be easy enough as well.

The 120 or 125mm pulley would give you a decent jump in power and torque, whilst retaining similar front end handling characteristics to stock by not adding as much extra weight over the front of the car as a PD blower.

With a 125mm pulley on pump gas you would have a better chance of gaining traction in lower gears and the power delivery would be more linear then a PD blower, with far less heat soak, still leaving the car track capable if that's your thing.

IMO, matched to a 10speed auto the ESS unit stands out as the better option for a Mach 1.

Pricing is competitive as well, the only downside is the noise that Centrifugal chargers make, even the helical gear options are too noisy for me, if they made a silent or extreme low noise version of the ESS charger it would be hard to say no to.
