Just do yourself a favor and get the Redline ones. I got the Ford Performance one and took them off within a week. The mount is such a POS. The Redline mounting bracket is far superior.

What I read is you need 13 Newtons of force for every pound of the item being lifted. Now I don't have an exact weight for a stock hood. I've gotten results from 31 to 40 pounds. Which means somewhere in the range of 400 to 520 Newtons of force. And the lifting force varies with ambient temperature.
I suppose I could buy some generic gas struts, maybe from eBay. I can provide dimensions for the search but I don't know what to input for the gas force.
You are correct. I am currently looking at my options for replacement of my failing 6 year old Steeda struts. They confirmed that their's cannot be regassed wereas some other brands can be. The OEM hood is supposed to weigh 36 pounds. Ford Performance mentioned their's had 90 pound force capacity. That equates to roughly 400 Nm which is just a bit lower than the 13 Nm per pound hood weight. What I read is you need 13 Newtons of force for every pound of the item being lifted. I have those, also. Install is easy peasy and they work awesome. No complaints.I agree, FP are just rebranded Redline's. BUT, I much prefer the Roush ones. They are much better made. 2 bolts on each end, more sturdy.
Yeah, my Steeda ones at 5 years have started to loose their 'ooomph'. Almost got hit by the bonnet a few weeks ago when detailing. Will probably get worse now in winter. You are correct. I am currently looking at my options for replacement of my failing 6 year old Steeda struts.
I have been looking at Struts Australia and Strut Specialists. I thought the stainless steel struts might be nice on my car. The only thing with these is I would have to opt for 10mm shorter than the 335mm extended length of the Steeda ones.Yeah, my Steeda ones at 5 years have started to loose their 'ooomph'. My wife has a Subaru Liberty (Legacy in the US) that is 13 years old and the bonnet struts are like new.
I'd probably try the local supplier before shelling out $$ to Steeda again. Which local supplier are you leaning towards?
