But there used to be all kinds of race shops in Skokie and out toward ROckford. Frankly give the boys at 'Strange Engineering' (Morton Grove) a call and ask who they recommend.

I'd call Mike Post at DynotuneMP. I travel 5 hours for him to work on my stuff. He's worked on 3 of my cars and always shoots you straight for what you're trying to accomplish.

OP call Jon Kasse Racing. Tell him what you want and he will ship you the engine. You will have to find someone local to install but he builds on hell of a Ford engine. PS you won’t find any mod engines on his website but he does build them.

It is impossible to reach them. They never answer the phone and they won't return emails. I've tried for days.

Even the best shops make mistakes. No one cares more about your motor than you do and you are not paying for your time so... I recommend you check and double check everything the shop does. If this means buying a few hundred $$ of precision measuring tools that is not much compared to the 10's of thousand we will spend on a good motor.


If you are not confident in your skills at this then get someone else to do it, someone independent of the shop building the motor.


Even NASCAR motors fail and the shops building them are probably better and certainly more $$$ than the ones we can afford to go to. It's not that other shops are not good but expect some mistakes or oversights and be prepared to look for them.

Charlie's Automotive in Apex (far west Apex) is a 1st class operation but I don't know if he still does consumer engines. It's worth a call.
