Quick question... the battery in my 350 is toast. Just pulled it out and was surprised to see that it’s only 470cca. It’s a motorcraft battery so I figured it was the original... just seems small. Is the right size?

Looking at some older posts, it looks like many reported only 390CCA as the stock battery, but I’m unsure of the year of those cars.

I have a 2019. Factory battery had a black label and was 390 cca. Motorcraft replacement has red label and 470 cca.

Same here. '19 with 390 CCA original battery. The MC 470 CCA with the red label is most likely dealer replacement,

The OE battery listed in the 2017 GT350 supplement manual is a BXT-99RT4-A, 470 cca, so sounds like yours is the original. My 2017 has a BXT-96R-590 (590 cca) which was in the car when I bought it new. Fits and works fine. I assume there was a problem with the original and the dealer swapped in the 590, which oddly is the stock battery for the regular Mustangs.

Thanks fellas. I’ll just get the 470 from the dealer. Or the 590 if they don’t have it. Assuming it’s a little heavier but I don’t think that’s much of a concern

When my battery goes I will get a larger battery. With minor mods what group battery fits?

Costco has Interstate 96R for our Shelby's. $100.

Do you know if the battery tray is bigger on 350 vs gt or eb? I may also grab the 570 if it’s available

Went through the same thing with my 2016, as did several other members here. According to FP, the GT350 got the smaller batteries to save weight (I believe it was to save money when they were trying to keep the 2015/16s under $50k, but that's me). This was unique to the GT350. Not having the foresight to use a battery tender early on, many of us saw our batteries fail within the first year or two. Many among us replaced them with the standard Mustang battery, rather than returning to the 390. Having learned the hard way, and having the battery tender from the 2016, the 2019 immediately got hooked up to the battery tender.

Lesson: 1) use a tender, 2) when time to replace, use a more robust battery, unless trying to save weight for track purposes.

A quick search will turn up the multiple threads from the past. Good luck.
