And yet Ford doesn't want anyone owning a V6 premium...yet Chevy is allowing all 3 engines to get base or premium trims. + to Chevy to not forcing people into a model.
Agreed. Ford went too far pushing the 6cyl down as well as deliberately detuning the 2.3T ecoboost to be closer to the 6cy in performance. GM has done better this gen with the Camaro in this engine power/option area.

"I'm probably biased, but for the price increase, the premium just wasn't worth it to me".

While I might have agreed with you on some points (voice control sucks, some lights are gimmicky), I disagree about the drive modes. They are quite useful and increase the enjoyment driving the car.... especially the sport+ mode for me (this is even more true with the automatic xmission). My wife also likes to drive our Mustang (not an expert driver!) so she uses normal or wet/snow mode effectively.
I have an automatic as well. You can essentially accomplish sport+ with a base. All you need to do is turn off traction control, set the steering to sport and pull the stick back to S. Voila, "sport+ mode". Want track mode, do all the above, but also disable advancetrac.

Now this isn't 100% identical to the modes, but pretty darn close and probably not enough of a difference for most to notice.

My wife also likes to drive mine, and she is a horrible driver. That said, she still doesn't need extra nannies to make it somewhere in bad weather.

Base... As I have a V6.
I did want leather, but after sitting through the heatwave in LA these last few months. I'm quite happy about not having it and sticking to it. I don't care about the Navi, my girlfriends Acura has Navi and it sucks, much prefer google navigation. Performance option can be added aftermarket (I mean most of this stuff including leather can be added). But this car is my DD. I'm not going to track it or drag it so... What's the point? At least for me.

Base GTPP and love it. Didnt need all the other nonsence. But to each his own. Honestly think heated mirrors should be standard by now on most cars.
This is what I did. Base, PP, with cloth recaros. 33k price tag.

I've had ford's heating and cooling seats in my explorer sport, the cooling is a joke. Navigation.. eh. I usually look up where I'm going before i'm in the car.

Color changing ambiance.. I had it in my 12, it was nice, but not required.

Rest is just fluff, but if you dd it then could be what you want.

I'd say if you're daily driving the Mustang go with the premium, I went for the base PP just because I bought it to be a fun weekend and track car so I wouldn't have much use for all the fancy stuff anyway... I do wish i had went with the cloth recaro's though...

The base model with PP is lucrative, but the premium interior and drive modes makes me feel like it's worth the extra coin (though I could do without the silly lighting gimmicks completely). The plan is to get the car next spring, drive it, put winter sneakers on the PP wheels, and then buy lighter rims and better tires for nice weather from there on out.

I'm looking at two cars currently which couldn't be further from each other on the spectrum. One is a base with PP and the other is a Premium w/ 50th Ann.

I'm currently leaning on the Base with PP but I live in Toronto, Canada and I seriously need the heated mirrors having lived with cars without, I can tell you it is a pain in the butt to scrap snow/ice off the mirrors in the morning.

How much does it cost to have heated elements installed on a base mirror?

I can live with the spartan interior and do upgrades as time goes on, but a big connern for this car being a daily driver will be safety stuff like heated mirrors.

Am I missing anything else on the 300A package?
I like my base GT, but I also own a house with an attached garage. I personally don't see heated mirrors as a safety item, more of a splurge.

I guess just different ways of thinking.

Base GT here with PP...

Obvious reasons why I didn't want leather on the car this time. Recaros are nice but they don't fit me very well. Definitely did not need all the other useless stuff; all I wanted was PP & a 5.0. Also for some of us, choosing a base model has nothing to do with affordability.

If I want creature comfort with bells & whistles, I'll jump into our 15 EXSport.

I had received a response from Ford at one point that the "ambient lighting kit" was now standard on all 2016s, only to realize it's not installed in mine. Am I missing the kit somehow (wouldn't be the weirdest thing I've heard missed), or was the original info just wrong?

Things add up quick:

+7,000 5.0 Engine
+4,000 Premium
+2000 Auto & Nav (for example)
$13,000 Total upcharge before all the smaller options

You came into this just wanting the new Mustang. "Hey, it's only $27k!"
When you come out the other side, you're like "Wow, it's over $40k!"

They are building the cars pretty quickly now. When you order the car, you only pay for what you want, not what the dealer chose.

I just realized I spent over $2k just on appearance upgrades to my new car.

Winter tires are for traction on slippery wintery roads..... can't use the full power of any of the engines. This is why the "Snow/Wet Mode" with the premium is so very useful.....smoothes out your driving inputs (especially throttle response, braking, etc.) to keep from inadvertiently breaking traction and sliding sideways. (The opposite happens with "Sport+" or "Track" modes...much crisper throttle response, etc.)
Winter tires are for a rubber compound designed to provide friction at low temperatures, and also have different water and snow shedding characteristics. I grew up driving V8 rear wheel drive cars in Canadian winters, and I've never needed a computer to manage my snow/wet traction. My right foot is my driving mode. But I accept that some people like having the driving modes. They just weren't wanted by me. To each their own.

I had a Base and ended up trading it this weekend for a Premium. I had never sat in a Premium until this and wow the seats are a million times more comfortable. The cooled seats are awesome and I never saw value in that before. I did it because of the 0% and my payment only going up a few bucks, but yeah coming from someone who has owned both...go ahead and get the Premium, and try your best to find a Performance Package car as well. They are getting really hard to find right now, but it's worth the extra effort, even if you have to drive a ways for one.
I test drove all the models (except an Ecoboost) before ordering exactly what I wanted. I'm into the track car minimal aesthetic.

I would really recommend that potential buyers test drive the models they are considering. Measure twice, cut once.

This. Except not sure about the Recaros, I couldn't find one to test drive and didn't want to gamble on them. I find the base cloth seats are astoundingly good - and really sticky on the track.

I'm getting the sense that a large part of this discussion is simply - you wanted a DD GT? Get the Premium. You wanted a track car? Get the GT base with PP.

Definitely test drive them multiple times. Definitely also view the color you want in various lighting (day, night, cloudy).

It's pretty telling on this forum that a lot of EB owners traded up (I think we're at like 10+ at least). So if you are not sure, drive that EB multiple times and drive the GT.

I think the PP has the most value for the money personally. I wouldn't get one without this option unless you hate the wheels.

I have a '15 Base model with PP and Recaros. Best combo in my opinion. Radio is plenty for my needs. Could add a sub at some point. Coming from an 05, the standard creature comforts on the '15 are leaps and bounds better than my 05 Premium.

Also my views are based on an occasional fair weather driver. May want a totally different set up if daily driving long distances
