Not to worry guys. Ford can always employ a sure fire sales tactic to kick start sales on the Mustang. Can you say....."promotion" or "rebate." Brings in the fence sitters every time!

Yes but having a lower price from the get go will get you more sales from the competition.

Not necessarily. A large part of the science of selling is establishing a preeminent perceived valuation of a product which is predicated in large part by price.

Lower price implies lower quality/less features. Higher price implies greater quality and features.

Promotion is a universal deal maker in any market with virtually no negative impact on product image.

Kinda true

Not necessarily...

"Lower price implies lower quality/less features. Higher price implies greater quality and features."

In whore houses of the Old West I'm sure your perception of value received for your money would be very true, But in today's automotive marketplace you don't always get value for price paid.:paddle:

Why, didn't you enjoy the fine quality and low price of your Yugo? ;)

Funny comment Skytop1. No one was fooled 30 years ago that the Yugo was anything other than a piece of crap car. But I do believe that the "value for the money" proposition of the S550 far exceeds the value one receives by buying what is foolishly believed by the motoring public to be any car by one of the "premium brands". Long story short, New Mustang is a "true value"...in any engine iteration!

even with the price hike, I doubt it would sway many buyers away. I'd be pretty mad if I was in the market for one, but even with the increase, I would not consider the Camaro.

Camaro gives you the better performance and I really like some of the features it gives you...but for the majority of buyers, they consider the price of the car and the look of the car first.

Ford wins both!

With ford selling 10k+ mustangs a month, I am kind of surprised the increase didn't happen sooner. A marketing class I took said that pricing a product higher and offering temporary discounts sells more than pricing the product lower. It creates the illusion of getting a premium product for a "good deal". It's a win/win for the manufacturer as they sell more and some people will just pay the additional charge without argument.

From Ford:
ACTION REQUESTED

Please be familiar with the pricing changes, effective January 1, 2016, on select 2016MY
Mustang vehicles (V6, EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium).

SUMMARY
Ford is announcing competitive pricing actions on the 2016MY Mustang V6, EcoBoost, and EcoBoost
Premium models effective January 1, 2016.
This pricing action continues to keep the Ford brand
competitive and aggressively positioned versus our
key competitors. Please be sure you communicate
these changes within your dealerships. Thank you
for your continued commitment.

DETAILS OF MID-YEAR PRICING ACTIONS

Mustang V6 (50A, 51A) – will increase by $250 MSRP

Mustang EcoBoost & EcoBoost Premium (100A, 200A, 201A) – will increase by $250 MSRP

Mustang GT & GT Premium (300A, 400A, 401A) – no change to MSRP

PRICE PROTECTION
2015 model and 2016 model units invoiced prior to December 31, 2015 will not be re-invoiced.
Are prices going up? Yes. But not by $1,300 and not on the GT or GT350. Just a boo-boo on their website.

^^^based on the Ford statement above, it states that the Mustang V-6 (50A,51A) are Premium Models. Ford doesn't offer a "Premium Package" on their V-6s...I guess they like to consider certain models "Premium"!

I don't know what you're talking about, nowhere does it state that there's a Premium V6.

You're right, there is no Premium V-6...I was being FACETIOUS. But look at the second sentence under the section "Summary"... It refers to all their Premium models. They refer to the V-6s before and after that sentence. So it's inferred in their communication. I am painfully aware that there is no Premium V-6...Ford raised rates on all Mustangs.

You're reading it wrong. It says "Ford is announcing competitive pricing actions on the 2016MY Mustang V6, EcoBoost, and EcoBoost Premium models effective January 1, 2016."

The only premium model it refers to is the Ecoboost Premium.

I know you're right...I'm just "bitching" that there's no Premium options or package for the Cyclonic Mustangs. But all V-6 and Ecoboost Mustangs are getting a mid-year price increase.
