I had to flash my FR-S back to a stock tune just for inspection, then flashed back to my main tune right afterwards. I threw a few CEL's with a catless header and the rear O2 turned on. Finally, my tuner just turned it off so it wouldn't happen anymore.

Not sure how easy it is to go back to a stock tune on a bolt on car, but I realize this isn't possible with some intakes. Maybe have a secondary tune just for the inspection? Usually takes a few miles to throw a CEL anyway and that's with constant highway driving.

For those interested...

With our MAK Cat Deletes the factory cats can be swapped into the car in about 30mins if needed for emmissions testing. Other than that you can enjoy the benefit of offroad pipes at all other times.
Can someone explain to me how this works with LTs? Surely the factory connection is different after Long Tubes are installed so how are you able to swap the stock cats back in within 30 mins?

He wasn't talking about longtubes, just their cat deletes. Their cat deletes aren't going to work with longtubes.

Just an FYI for those on the fence about headers because of emissions, Kooks makes "green" catted headers that won't trigger a CEL, so if you live in a state with an OBD check, you'll pass inspection. They're pricey, but if you PM or call some vendors on here, you'll be able to get a pretty substantial discount. marylandspeed hooked me up with an insane deal that I couldn't pass up.

It has been hit or miss with us on 2011+ cars. We have installed 2 Green Cats on each side on a Boss 302 type car with success before. Sometimes we can just install those spacers with one set of cats.

There may be some PCM strategies that support functions that may allow you to "trick" the computer into passing with high flow or even no cats but that is highly illegal and not something we and or other tuners are likely willing to do.

The guys who tune diesels and turn off any emissions equipment have been sought out by the EPA recently and they are not joking around these days. Jail time is a possible punishment for this "crime" not to mention the fines $$. Just look up what went down over at H&S...
I was looking at getting SW catted headers. I guess those things will not pass NJ emissions either.

PA is the same way, once a year. Its absolutely unnecessary imho. If you establish rapport with someone qualified to perform state inspection and emissions, they might be able to just hook you up. That's what I do.

I'm in PA. My last car had no cats, LT headers, ECS 1500, Methanol and a BOV that was obnoxious. My car passed the inspection and emissions inspection twice. With an OBD II car, no CEL meant "pass".

LT's and no cats is part of the physical inspection. Technicality, moving the cats is illegal everywhere in the US. If the State does your inspections/emissions test, you will have a problem. In PA shops are independent and want to keep customers.
