It could be something you ran over and the car saw on the road, liked, and picked up for the trip home, like the shop towel, and later, a miscellaneous plastic bottle I found laying in my lower air intake.

Yeah, I use that same quote whenever someone posts up a "what's this" thread.
The "what's this" topic crops up all the time on FB, so I get to use that line quite a bit.

No shop. It must've been laying in the road and the lower air intake sucked it up. Same with the plastic bottle. This is twice I've found foreign objects trapped in there.

By chance were you horsing around with your headlights? From the pic, although I can't see any grove/twist lock mechanism, it certainly looks like the push fasteners that hold the headlight plug in place.
