My question is why did you floor it in second gear to do a log for Adam? I recall in a previous post from him that he stated do not floor it in 2nd from a stop light and in 6th gear. Usually tuners want to see a 3rd or 4th gear pull.
I had seem him tell someone else on here that he could use a 2nd gear pull. I don't really have anyplace safe to do a 3rd gear pull(100+mph). I started in 1st then used paddle shifters to enter 2nd, did not start in 2nd. I probably should have just taken it somewhere to use a dyno, that was my original plan. But at the same time you should be able to go WOT once and awhile in this thing!

Since the issue seems to be either related to the pistons or the connecting rods being the weak link should we be upgrading these parts prior to cracking the block. Could this be preventative maintenance at this point?

Could this be done by simply dropping the oil pan and replacing the pistons, rings and rods?

If it is fatigue of parts upgrading to stout parts may make sense, spend $500 now or 7K later?
With my last comment, we really don't know, until engine is torn down and even that maybe be hard to tell .
It could be a combination of things , oil blowby ,timing ,gas quality ,etc ,things can just add up all at wrong time.
Logs might show things like knock count and any timing issues but here OP said it was ok.
So its hard to say for sure.

BTW, you can't drop pan and just replace rods/pistons. The engine should be pulled and then head removed and rest of engine disassembled.

you have to remember, the rods new are like $29.95 from ford, they aren't exactly "hi $$ pieces" lol.

glad to see you not blaming the tune, especially on a car that isn't driven hard.

wish the tuners would follow suit as some of the "top tuners" blame other tuners tunes on cars that are ran "VERY HARD" to try to make themselves look better

Come on now, lol. Don't beat around the bush. If you think someone is unfairly blaming other tuners, then come out with it.

So here's a question - does anyone think that a tuner would admnit to his tune possibly causing a failure (which essentially would mean end of his business) ?

The rods in this engine seem pretty weird. I don't know if it was just a certain batch or something but it's weird to see some pop randomly on almost stock engines and then other be fine at 400/400 for 20k miles.

Thanks for sharing! Glad they took care of it for you.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that the HPFP changed. I swapped mine last year out of frustration with a misfire-like problem that just could not be resolved. The pump did it. I assumed I just had a weak one initially, but it is entirely possible they changed the part. I remember comparing all of the numbers on it at the time but don't remember if there was any difference. In hind sight I lost the whole season to that POS. I posted a bit about it in my engine build thread.

Why would a tuner admit fault? Stock engines are blowing up. And that's why this is starting to make me uneasy. I followed the thread that 04SloSnake had linked to when it was happening and in Adam's initial post, he laid out some guidelines. Great! But with what happened to this OP's engine, 2 of Adam's guidelines were proven false. This is not an attack on Adam or his tuning abilities. The bottom line is is that 2 of Adam's guidelines to a fail safe engine did not hold true and so how does anyone know for a certainty about the stability of this engine.

This just seems like a weak rod I'm not sure any guidelines can apply to that. Shit happens.

I agree. Sometimes shit does happen. I'm sure if these engines were blowing wide spread then Ford would issue a recall. Anytime you have a mass produced product bad things can happen. I don't use Adam as my tuner, but I respect his work and his knowledge. All you have to do is be aware of the known issues and do proper maintenance. Drive your car and enjoy it. This could have happened to any car on this forum regardless of the engine.

I just want to be clear that I am not accusing Adam of any wrong doing. Even though I am not a client, I have nothing against him. All I'm saying is that if what Adam thought to be guidelines to the known issues and do the proper maintenance is not holding to be true (not saying he's a liar, just agreeing that shit does happen) then what. How can you "drive your car and enjoy it" knowing that regardless of heeding to the warnings and doing proper maintenance, the engine could still blow at anytime.

Yes, there was just recently a stock tune car that blew on here within the last week or so if I remember correctly.
