A few more plot twists....

Spoke to dealer today, he said currently ford does not have a fix for the issue. Than stated they will not be able to look at the engine further till next week as they are backed up, and asked if I could come get my car and bring it back next week so they can look further.

First I said OK, He calls back I missed his call. I call him and left a message saying I changed my mind, keep it and let it roll towards the 30 day lemon law. He said he would have entered customer refused to pick up car in system.

Any case, he said he called me back (call I missed) to let me know he wanted to open a case with ford from the dealer (not the tech hotline) but a regular case I guess I could have opened. He says he will push for a long block, we will see.

I picked up car, and barring the bullshit will bring it back again next week.

Take that car back to that dealership. You tell them that you are very concerned about safety now. What if that engine locks up and you wreck.

I told them that, they said if it's been ok for 4500 miles you should be ok for a week.

Compression tests came back good, no misfires, etc.

I'm calling ford today.

So I was supposed to get a call a today from the SM letting me know what day to bring the car back, called him and sent him an email at 1PM and haven't heard a word.

At some point, I am wondering if I am being blown off, strung along, or they are legitimately waiting on Ford. I am not sure which at this point, but growing tired of it all. How would you guys approach this? I am thinking if I don't hear back by tomorrow to head over to the dealer Wednesday, ask for a prorated refund on my extended plan and I'll keep the car til 35k miles and get rid of it, would certainly not be buying another.

Why keep it until 35k, why not just call the Ford 800# and demand a Buy Back (refund)?

Got a call from dealer and kinda thought they were going to say engine tick tapping during RPM is normal, they said they isolated to one of the cylinders, will be getting a short block possibly a long block they need to check a few more things, advisor also acknowledged that he thinks ford will issue a recall shortly. He thinks it's due to manufacturing error, something is out of spec, didn't say what.

Very surprised as it seems to be a total 180 degree view on handling the issue, tech has been in contact with ford hotline and following what he is told.
If it turns out to be improper reposition of the pin boss after increasing the diameter of the cylinder and pistons, then the piston slap may in fact be too excessive. If that's proving to be the case, they may in fact have fixed the issue already and will issue a recall to start replacing engines. That's not a very big recall, since there are only about 100,000 cars affected. However, it would be a very costly one.

No chance of a recall. Recalls only happen on safety related items. And no they won't deem it a safety item "if the engine locks up" which is silly. It's a noise, not a catastrophic problem.

TSB at best, but they will avoid that as long as possible.

Nothing silly about trying to help that member get his thirty days in.
