I take the oil and filter to the local jiffy lube
Oh my god. 🙈

They literally ruined a coworkers family car just two weeks ago not adding the oil on their Lexus. Good luck to you.

I've known the guys that work there for years and I watch them do the work.

I do not mess with FORD at all unless something is under warranty, and even then I cringe.

Took my Mustang in new in 2016 because one of the taillights went out. I asked them if I can bring the defective one in and swap for a new one and they said nope, we need to get pictures and stuff for the warranty work. I told them flat out after they screw up the Roush SC install I had no trust in their ability. But since I had no choice, I dropped it off. Pick it back up the next day to get home and open the truck and see I'm not missing the plastic trim cover that snaps in on top of it. Service manager made sure to leave it on her desk and not be present when I went to pick it up. I was pissed to say the least.

Fast forward to 2021 I take my F-250 for warranty work and go to pick it up (different dealership than the Mustang) and the interior smells like cat piss..... I make then clean the truck and go to pick it up again and the entire center portion of the dash is soaking wet... Now some how the windshield is leaking and that has never ever happend prior.

All that to say, Ford does not touch anything I own was the warranty has expired...

Makes me grateful for my dealership, G-Stone Motors in Middlebury VT. My family has done business there for 40 years. I can’t do an oil change for what they charge plus dispose of the used oil. It takes an hour and they wash the exterior and floor mats and give it a quick vacuum.

This is why I do it myself. Takes less than an hr.
Or if I am feeling lazy, I take the oil and filter to the local jiffy lube and they charge $40 to do it.
$40 for full synthetic?

No, $40 is for them to do the change. I provide the oil and filter. I only use Mobil 1 Euro Spec 5w40 and WIX 57502xp filter

Yesterday I scheduled a confirm oil change appointment at 1.30 , I arrived at 1.15 at 10 minutes to 3.00 they still didn’t start the oil change!! Does this seem reasonable for a ford dealership the oil change was completed by 3.30 should I complain or what would you do?
I would have been asking questions by 2:00. Then by 2:30 I would of left and gone somewhere else.

I meant 5w40, not 10.. not sure why I wrote 10
Yeah no worries, just wondering.
I use Penrite 5w40 which fixed oil consumption issues and some of the tick I had. I've read about some different ideas people have about oil. So you had me wondering. Lol

7 am to early , the guys are still drinking coffee and having Donuts waking up.

Now appointment , I was told it is NOT an appointment time ," It's an arrival time "

My last service was 1:30 ( local Ford Dealership ) , I was 5 th in line went fairly quick . I became buds with the Master Tech in the shop , he knows how picky I am , he is the overseer of all the Tech s and Oil change , they take the Mach to the service side of the shop , I slip him a Jackson . And all is good , I supply the Motocraft 5-50W full synthetic , filter and new revised dual Oring drain plug.
Charge is $35 , I don't count the Jackson , that's between Dawson and myself .
In at 1:30 out be 3:30 ish , Im Happy ... also I was told waiting customers go ahead of drop offs , within reason.

For sure annoying, but I’m under the impression that TECHNICALLY speaking when you book those “appointments” you’re just booking a time with the service advisor, not the appointment it self at that time.

Regarding the warranty and maintaining it, you can have maintenance performed anywhere, including DIY.

The Ford Warranty Guide lays out the requirements for keeping coverage. It's simple. Keep receipts, notes, photos, etc. Ford has a reasonable expectation the Owner will show some form of proof the maintenance schedule has been followed. Businesses often upload their records to sites like CarFax. Owners can also upload their own.

I feel the best option is DIY to the greatest extent possible. But I realize this doesn't work for everyone.

A next-best choice would be a local shop, a small business to that area or region. With the Internet, review sites, the BBB and referrals, it takes a small effort to locate a good place. Local businesses have more skin in the game, are often run by fellow gearheads and are more attentive to schedules, service and repairs.

Some have great experiences with their local dealer. There are some good ones out there. Specific to this event, I'd ask if this was a one-off or recurring. The former indicates something unique happened that day, the latter a systemic problem.

The local dealer and how they handle customer flows is one half of the equation. The other, the customer.

My dealer has a Quick Service line for general maintenance. Oil changes, tires, batteries, etc. While the customer can schedule service, anyone can also walk-in. It's a high-volume, low-margin operation. This setup is prone to delays.

The dealer also does traditional repairs. The customer is received at the appointed meet time. The work however can take place sometime after. For Walk-ins, it is understood while they will be met, they will often (but not always) go behind everyone scheduled.

As to customers, I would not have waited as long as you did. Let's give the tech 30 mins+ for one oil change. I would have waited that long. Afterwards, I would have told the Advisor I was cancelling the appointment and leaving. If this was the first time that happened and you'd had good service before, you could give them another chance. If the environment is often like that, I would not return.

You did good showing up on time. Not everyone is as attentive. Some have legitimate reasons for not arriving when scheduled. Many I've seen don't. Some clients have an entire day to blow on getting one thing done. The dealer has a big screen, Internet access, a small cafe and a bathroom. While I've never asked anyone directly, some in waiting areas appear to be making a day of it.

Long story short: don't wait as long and look back to see if this is was a one-off or not. If you appreciate schedules and keeping time, consider a local business that can support that.

Mobil 1 Euro Spec is 0W40.

My time is my own (retired) but I’m not waiting around for hours to get an oil change. I can change the oil myself at home in about an hour, taking my time, and checking everything else out that should be looked at every 5k miles. I also know everything will be done right.
