Always going over limiter?

Hey guys! Long time, no talk! I've just been working and using my '15 Mustang V6 Auto as my daily driver and the experience has been freaking phenomenal so far. Can't tell you how many people admire the car when they see it.

Now, I got a Mustang for two reasons. I like the respect and I like speed. I've been holding myself back from punching in that throttle until I hit over 1,000 miles... Okay, I'll admit, I did it twice or three times already before..

I have currently 1,140 miles on her and within the last 140 miles, I have been punching that pedal like a speed demon. There is only one problem: Majority of times whenever I put the pedal all the way down, it takes off and then all of the sudden it's like the power quits flowing to the engine and it takes 2 seconds to get back into gear. It's quite embarrassing. A co-worker of mine said his 2010 Mustang did the same thing as a protection against the engine "whenever you go over the rev limiter."

Is there anything you can do so this will stop happening when you push the gas all the way down? If you put the vehicle in sport mode, will the same thing happen?

If I had to guess it sounds like you're hitting the fuel cut off point (which happens when you attempt to go over red line) but I would have thought the auto transmission would shift before hitting that point...maybe someone else with an auto can chime in.

+1, probably spinning the tires. HOWEVER, based on the way you are asking this question JessV I highly advise you to exercise caution. No disrespect meant, but if you can't tell you are spinning the tires you can lose control very quickly with the traction control/stability control disabled.

Now there is a chance you are experiencing something else entirely. Shoot a video of your issue if you get a chance.

If I had to guess it sounds like you're hitting the fuel cut off point (which happens when you attempt to go over red line) but I would have thought the auto transmission would shift before hitting that point...maybe someone else with an auto can chime in.

+1, I let mine hit the rev limiter in sport with the paddles and it will cut off at about 7000rpm. That seems to be what the OP is feeling, it takes about 2 seconds or so to shift up and get going again.

I've experienced the same thing I believe as the OP. Running through first and slightly over reving trying to hit 7k and its like you hit a damn brick wall and its a pain in the ass putting back in gear. I've tried the advance sport mode since I just have the base GT/PP and it makes no difference once I go to the mid way point between 6500-7000rpm it just cuts the fuel and gives me the finger. Future mods for me will be a tuner and updated valve springs if needed to get my limit between 7500-8000rpm. Will be upgrading oil pump as well. First thing too upgrade for me though for now would be the IRS parts too reduce wheel hop.

No doubt it's traction control. My 11GT did same thing. Sport mode was better but not 100%

Keep in mind the tach isn't 100% accurate and could be a bit slow. Your engine hits 7k RPM while the tach needle is still swinging by 6500. Shift sooner.

I had this too a couple of times. Gtpp. I thought it would just bounce off the limiter and not give me more power but it felt like i tapped the brakes real quick for a fraction of a second.

I have tapped the limiter in 1st gear in my AT. Usually not. Just let it do its thing.

Rephrasing OP's situation here:
"I want to bang my engine off the rev-limited ALL THE TIME but the damn Ford engineers put engine management with protection protocols in place to preserve it when treated harshly this way. So I want to do mods that remove all the engine preservation features and beat it to death within 10k miles trying to make my V6 act like a V8."
